I'm glad you brought up the oil coolers. One of our discoveries during this build has been a concerning flaw with what is currently considered the "best" aftermarket oil cooler option for this platform: the Evolution Racewerks Competition Dual Oil Cooler setup that we're running. While I support the development of aftermarket options for this platform; for the money ($1500+ !?!?!) this dual OC setup should be dead-nuts solid. Unfortunately as it was designed, the oil fittings feed in and out of the BOTTOM of the oil coolers as seen in the photo below. The idea of soft/fragile welded aluminum fittings hovering inches above the ground isn't exactly confidence inspiring on a track car - knowing that a tiny 'off' at the track or running over curbing could lead not only to possible catastrophic oil loss, but a dangerous dump of hot oil all over the front tire. That said, we were able to correct the design issue and we flipped the OC's to now be top fed. And while I bust ER for their design oversight, their OC shrouds are excellent. We think a large part of the cooling success of these dual OC's can be attributed to the shrouds. |

Hug a roll cage painter today. Seriously. I'm DIY'ing this part of the job and it's terrible. It takes 20487492 steps to do it properly and each step takes HOURS to complete. We also learned the hard way that POR-15 paint is not meant to go on existing paint! (ONLY raw metal!) It applies like junking existing paint and chips off super easily once dry. Fortunately we were successful with round two last night, where we sprayed the interior after spending 3-4 hours and $50 in painters tape protecting the cage. I didn't get any AFTER photos since it was a little dark by the time we finished, but here are some before photos of our blue taped caged. Should we keep the blue??

Sorry I must have missed this! We're pretty firm on the direction we're heading with our BBK, but I'll keep your setup in mind if this setup is still available over the offseason. Regardless, appreciate the heads up!

[QUOTE=sirdaft1;22134453]Here's a long update with some learning takeaways for future reference...
The mad scientist hard at work doing some small modifications to the HARD widebody rear pieces. I'm pretty impressed with how plug and play widebody is. It only requires minimal cutting/shaving to get spot on fitment. For those who have PM'd me, this is the widebody kit we're running. Fitting the widebody on the rear... Rivets in the body Rear widebody panel installed The widebody install is just a matter of prefitting the pieces, cutting the fenders and mounting up the pieces? S2000's require that you stitch weld the rear fenders back together when installing fender flares. |

It's the same for the 335. Once we get the actual widebody fitted properly, we'll remove it and then cut away the actual sheet metal beneath. Front fenders are single layer and should be simple. The rears will require stitch welding the inner and outer sheet metal pieces together. Fortunately eFab specializes in fabrication just like this, so it should be **knocks on wood** a walk in the park. That said, the rear widebody went on easily and fit 99% (some minor modifications). The front is showing itself to be a bit more of a pain. The pieces that go on the front bumper need quite a bit of modification and they're still not lining up with the fenders as they should. Looking at other guys who have done the same widebody install, it appears as if they dealt with quality issues as well where the bumper and fender widebody pieces meet up (any comments soursamo ?). That said, here she is in the middle of us fitting the widebody on the front... |
