HPFP
Went to start car at end of day of work a couple weeks back. Every light on the dash came on - felt that way anyway. Multiple failures. Car would only do 10 kph - floored! Turn car off then back on. Might do 60kph but automatic gear upshifts were very lazy at 4000rpm and engine very rough. Get so far then back down to 10kph. Did this several times and hobbled to dealer a couple minutes away. Replaced all fuel injectors and spark plugs.
Got car back, next day wrang it out gently. Pop. Emission warning light. Down on power and rough but no where bad as the other day. Back to dealer. Replaced HPFP with 943 and Fuel Rail /Sensor. Fuel pump was coming apart. Some metal debris. Over all a week end and then next week off the road. All under warranty, no charge. Fine so far. Lease goes back next summer. Done. |

Me too (HPFP #3). Hope this one does the trick. BTW, they did not update my software.

I told my advisor I wanted the newer one and for him to call me once he has the part number. He assured me that they (BMW of Sterling) no longer have the older fuel pump that was causing the problems. He seemed very knowledgeable on the N54 so that was a good feeling. I checked it in today but they guestimate that they won't be able to work on it until Monday. I took off all my mods. Stock is awful.

I'm installing the 943 pump this evening... Hopefully it will last longer than the other two...

Got mine installed at 34,xxx. Picked up the car yesterday and had a low idle/rough start this morning... hope it's an isolated event.

Got mine installed about a month ago and now I have a appt sunday at bmw because of long cranks. My SA told me its most likely the sensor. He said once the hpfp dies, the sensor is usually next, and this sensor can cause long cranks.
I scanned with the bt tool and found "fuel pump plausability" and a code for a faulty fuel pressure sensor..Ill update when I get my car back |

HPFP curveball
OK, how's this for a big-time curveball from BMW? Yesterday I was told by my SA @ the local BMW dealership that as of two weeks ago (approx) the company now believes the entire HPFP problem is caused by faulty software, and there is a new fix/software upgrade that MUST be applied to the ECU before any hardware replacement can be done.
They said they've done two 335's so far and both are working (no long cranks, etc.) at this point. The software upgrade literally takes all day and will, of course, overwrite my Dinan SII software, and the SA thinks that if I then go back to Dinan for an upgrade there, and my HPFP subsequently fails, BMW will blame the failure on Dinan's software any will probably refuse to warranty any repair. I'm going to talk to Dinan next week and get their take on this, but at this point I feel caught in a hell of a bind. Whaddya think? Rick |
