I just got my car back from the dealer. They replaced the Turanzas' with the Contis'. They ride a hell of a lot better and they are pretty quiet. Also had my steering column replaced, so with the alignment and tires...I'm in love again.

So I followed everyone's lead and called my local BMW dealer and told them I was experiencing excessive road noise. They scheduled an appointment for me to bring my car in for the SA to look at them. When I got there, I told him the same thing and asked that they NOT be replaced w/ Turanzas. He said that the SB said they must be replaced with Turanzas if available. After they looked at the wear on the tires he said that they do meet the requirements for free replacement (<10k miles) but the Turanzas are on back order. Since they're on back order he was able to justify getting the Conti's (which are also on back order).

Anyway, the point of my story -- Checkered Flag BMW in Virginia Beach was awesome and offered NO hassles with the replacement request!

Well you guys won't believe this, but the car is back at the dealer again. I took it in this morning to a "service clinic". Basically they check the entire car for free and then u can set up an appointment to fix whatever work needs to be done. Also they did Free PDR for everyone, which I didn't need.

After waiting about an hour and half, a guy comes out and take me to my car. After he leaves, I start looking the car over and I'm like WTF. There are HUGE scratches going parallel to the ground all along both doors on my car and part of the rear. Obviously first thing that came to mind is that they had brushes in the car wash and it f@cked it up. My car's JB, so it's filled w/ swirls, but I could see this scratches from a good 15-20ft back. Made my virtually new car look like it's a beaten up, 10yo civic. So I go back in and call the guy out. He's like, yea I have an e90 in the same color and it's always gonna have scratches. Then he sees the scratches and is like "HOLY $HIT!!, alright hold on a second" I also asked about the wash, and he said they don't use brushes. Then after 5 min, the service manager comes out and talks to me and looks over the car and he was like, "That'll buff right out". Yes I couldn't feel the scratches, but I shouldn't be able to see them from 20ft away, so they were pretty major. So he then saw the other side and said he'll have the car buffed at a detail shop. So I made an appointment to pick it up Monday night. Now I know the dealer could mess up the detail job and leave holograms all over it (my car was hologrammed all over the hood and trunk from when I picked it up (dealer prolly had kids buff it for delivery and they used a Rotary and didn't know how to use it). It will still be better than it is right now. I'm so pissed off. I decided not to bring my camera today, and so I have no pics.

What's also bad, is that after I left the car there and was waiting for my dad to come pick me up, I walked around back and sure enough, there were 6 brushes in the car wash, 2 on each side and 1 on top w/ all those flappy things. The guy lied to me before. I still can't understand why these dealers who sell expensive cars won't come into the 21st century and have Touchless washes installed.

I was a Porter at Toyota across the street for a while. So I know all the stuff that goes on when owners aren't watching and don't know.

Sry for the Offtopic Post, I just threw it hear w/ the rest of my dealer visits in the last 2 weeks. lol

Oh yea, for thread relevance: The new Turanzas are a hundred times better. Not sure if that's because they are new or not, but they are super quiet and the car handles well again.

My dealer put the Continentals on yesterday when my Bridgestones failed state inspection with only 11,000 miles on them. The dealer paid for 2 tires and the labor and I had to pony up for the other two tires. My car sounds alot better now though.

I am not sure what dealer you went to, but in Chicago I had wonderful experince with BMW of Westmont.
Many of my family members and friends have bought cars from there. Great Service department and sales dept.
I bought my e46 M3 there, my family lives in Naperville, and I currently work in NY.

A family friend was trying to buy a car at Bill Jacobs last summer, but they were being asses and would not budge on the price.
So then he went to Westmont and he got a car with Premium Paint(SG) for LESS than what Bill Jacobs was asking for a Alpine White Car with the same options.
Not to mention that the Westmont car JUST came off the truck with 2miles on the ODO.

Hope everything works out for you!

i have 13,000 kms, so about 8,000 miles on my car

i dont think its what car you have, as long as you had these tires, you are eligible for replacement and just complain like you are pissed off about the tires

Thanks, I hadn't heard of an e92 getting the free tires. I have the non sport 328i, so hopefully, I'll get replacements if the tires become too loud.

Picked up my baby from the service dept today. Had the Conti's put on free of charge to replace the crap Turanza's. MUCH happier with the ride. Highly suggest those of you out there w/ <10k miles complain until they agree to replace the Turanzas with Conti's!

yeah we have been having a problem keeping them in stock. We started replacing them after the bulletin came out (they pay good time to change tires...I could be rich if I did them all day long), and it was hard to keep the EL42s in stock. Not my first preference of tire.

The second these 18s" go noise and wear out, they are getting changed for Toyo T1Rs. I had those on my old car and I got 25k miles of hard abuse out of them...and only the fronts were worn out. The rears still had another 10k on them.

Hi All,
I just got my E90 328XI last November and only have about 4,100 miles. I don't know if I should wait a little longer until my tires reach 8,000 miles and then I call my dealer for replacement. I also need a Oil Sensor service this June. By that time, I would have around 8,000 miles. Another thing is that "Is this bulletin ever expired?" Thank a lot.

Does anyone know what the mileage limits are for free replacements? I know in the US, it's 10000mls or less for free replacements and 10000-20000mls for 1/2 price replacements. But what about in Canada since we use 'km' as the standards. I am asking because I am very very close to the limit of equivalent of 10000mls. If anyone here knows, please let me know. But I'd ask the service department for more details soon.

Too bad. I past that mileage already.

So how did you explain it to you SA? Did you just complain about road noise? I mean for my tires, yes, they are loud and ride harsh especially compared to the Contis on the loaner than I had earlier. The difference between the loaner and my car was almost like a car without suspension vs. a car with suspension over imperfections on the road. But I am afraid that the road noise is not excessive enough to warrant a replacement.

this is what i told them:
"when i drive on highway, there was a rhythmic noise i can hear, and the rhythm increases as the car's speed increases and visa versa"

I didnt even mention anything about harsh ride, i assume they already know that or cupping issues, but i just told them its my second time complaining and the SA bought my story and told me to go in on friday to get new rubber!! yay!

Mine initially said that too. THen he told me they weren't in stock and he would have to order them. I said, "well, that sounds to me like they aren't available. TSB says to replace w/ Turanza's IF THEY ARE AVAILABLE. So we'll be replacing with Conti's?" He said, "Yeah, why not. THey're cheaper anyway."

Maybe you can play that card?
