ive ordered this kit...and anyone thinking of ordering i would definetly reconsider as it guaranteed to fall apart after some heavy driving

Here is the link to the elbows. You have to modify them to be installed, or else they won't fit. Or you can PM me for a set of the modified version. I have been working on designing nylon elbows for the 335d; it's R&D is getting expensive...

My elbows still holding up after 14 months. The elbows are the weakest link in this catch can kit. However there is no other alternative option. Good luck finding one. It's cheap and inexpensive to replace once a year if you want peace of mind.

That area of the engine is hotter than hell. The plug shield for the MAF has basically melted on my car. Whatever heat shielding BMW has put in place is inadequate. Almost makes one want to figure out a better way to ventilate the engine bay. And no I am not advocating for the painful red air scoops.

I've been chatting with Jess and what we're looking at are Florosilicone hoses. There are a few manufacturers selling 1" elbows.

They are designed for oil applications and can handle high heat pretty well.

There really is nothing to it. A few parts and some time to hook them all up. Total cost of parts should be right around $200 and will provide part numbers so you can source out and replace as you need.

Did a catch can drain today. Since few have been curious about the amount of oil collected, I decided to measure it. It was roughly 25mL for every 3,500 miles, plus the build up on the bottom of the can (see pic and video). I am just glad the catch can system is collecting all this junk. Would hate to be a victim of carbon build up a second time.

Hopefully this is enough to do a Blackstone Oil analysis.

I further looked into my elbows (see pic). After over 22k and over 14+ months, they still look pretty good. One thing to note, as you can see they are very close to the turbo; make sure they are not touching the turbo housing. Make sure there is no direct contact between elbow and turbo housing.

Only guy I know that had an actual failure after 8 months of use, gottabekd.

I don't see why it would not be possible to get more months from them...

This is an extremely tricky area in the engine to work with. It took me some effort to figure out what would actually work.

GottBeKD, what size are you guys thinking? The dorman part is ~.7" on the inlet end. From your link, 16mm size is small at ~0.630". With regard to the dorman part, I recall having to "ram it home" to get it on the OEM plastic tube. Next size up is 19mm ~0.748". Might be okay with hose clamp.

The opposite end of the dorman part is like 1.2" inner diameter. I'm trying to avoid disassembling the 135i kit. Don't want the cut in the elbow to grow from handling.

The plastic nipple is exactly 1" OD when I measured a few weeks ago. With a clamp it should hold and with silicone I'm reading they are not as flexible so it needs to be a close match so it's not crushed to tighten.

Add to the list of falling apart are Greek and Torque. So I would say yes it's pretty much a guarantee to fail.

I have not gotten the elbows from Jess. He's shipping a DDE over to my neck of the woods and they were going to take a ride with it.

I already ordered the 1" elbows from Amazon and with some cutting ( the original elbow ends are 4 inches long ) and other fitting adaptations (from Menards) I made it to work. Now, hopefully these silicone elbows will maintain the integrity over time. we shall see .....

Any interest on another Catch Can install?

Have got an used\not working catch can from ebay for $70, it is Billet Technology catch can made for some Dodge or whatever, when arrived, it is fully functional just was tighten with wrench, so they could not open it.

Got two silicone elbows from amazon, the difference with other installs is that i have got a reducing elbow, 1 inch to 3\4.
After that have ordered from McMaster barb connection reducer from 3\4 to 1\2 , and have used bracket from EGR to hold the Catch can.

It was pretty straight forward with some trial and cutting.

In my case i was able to run hoses directly in front of the engine, and not around the intake pipe.

Do you like my solution?

To the rest of you, see how much room tgere is with no EGR cooler in the way. I noticed you repurposed the engine lifting eye location to mount the can. Any chance we can get a closeup of that?
