For the record, all of my pics were taken when the vehicle was at full operating temperature. Some of the pics you can actually see the exhaust resulting from frigid ambient 22 F temp....perhaps this is a simple case of shrinkage?

As someone had mentioned earlier the manual says the exhaust system may expand a full inch when hot...that seems like a lot.

My exhaust definitely expands a full inch or more after operating.

There is no way that my tips extend out another inch after driving the car for whatever length of time, that's just not happening. The exhaust should have had an extra inch of flared piping (female part of the joint) over the rear slip joints so that you could pull out the tips further on the E92, while it would still fit the E90. I'm assuming that the exhaust was mocked up on an E90 so its understandable. When the exhaust is on the car it looks fine, but if you are anal and want it to be perfect than another inch would have done that. I just adjusted mine a few minutes ago and its sitting as far back as it will go. My tips look just like phantomcoupes as far as positioning goes. Not too bad considering his was done by a professional.

...I too can live with the look (although it would be nice to have the tips adjustable as you mentioned). My concerns are with emissions causing damage from heat and constantly having unsightly crap on the bumper. Unfortunately it snowed shortly after I took the pics yesterday so it will be a while before I know first hand. Have any other e92ers with cp-e exhaust noticed any build-up?

As long as you are still running your cats on your car then you really shouldn't have anything to worry about. Just put a coat of wax on your bumper and it will wash right off. I use to have a turbo s2k, and that was a completely different story, my exhaust started to melt the paint on my bumper.

When you guys are saying that it expands up to 1 full inch...you're saying the exhaust extends out horizontally 1 inch? Or are you talking about expansion in diameter-wise?

Like Boosted say, as long as you still have your cat..you should be good. If you are running test pipes, the smell will kill you before anything, lol.

I fail to see how a stainless steel pipe can expand in either (a) diameter, or (b) length, by 1 inch when hot.

Is that even possible, from a physics aspect?

I don't have CP-E, but my RD mufflers does stick out about 1 inch more when they're at full operating temperature.

To clarify: the installation instructions included with the exhaust system says (b) length may increase up to 1 inch when hot.

It's nickel in the metal that allows it to expand (if I'm not mistaken)

Regardless of whether they expand or not I must say I've never seen an exhaust on any other E92 that is that short.

Yes they will since the Riss Rassing DP's will also work with a stock exhaust. Now, the question is how will it sound with catless downpipes? Hopefully there wouldn't be too much rasp, but I prefer the sound of catted downpipes personally with most aftermarket exhausts.

I was hoping for the same thing. However, according to their website....
"12/3/07 thru 12/7/07 cp-e™ will be closed to exhibit at the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show."
Guess we'll need to sit tight until Monday.

The E92 335i is longer than the E90 335i. If this system was designed using the E90. The tips would be too short for the E92. Eisenmann, Supersprint and many other brands offer removable tip to fix this situation. While at SEMA this year in Vegas, I could tell right away which companies used an E90 or E92 when designing their 335i exhaust systems. In fact one E92 335i had an Agency power system with a rear diffuser installed and you could barely tell the car had an exhaust installed.

Sorry CP-E for posting in your thread. I'm not trying to promote my brand in here and congrats on all of the success with the new system.

Cheers

Sorry in advance if I use any incorrect grammar..posting from the blackberry. Installed the exhaust a couple hours ago..everything bolted up perfectly. I drove around for abou 20 miles now or so, it sounds great and there is no drone at all. I haven't taken it on the highway yet, have to wait for tomorrow for that. Now just gotta break it in to get rid of the awful new exhaust smell.

Sweet....I'll be installing mine this weekend. Can't wait! Did you DIY or have it professionally installed?

Just curious of how difficult or PITA it is as I will be using rhino ramps for the install.

What kind of smell are you talking about and about how long before it's gone?

Congrats!!
