Incidentally, you can run both JB4 and a custom Cobb AP tune. So you might consider getting a JB4 as well. I have purchased a Cobb AP and plan to run a custom Cobb map with the JB4. Terry at Burger Tuning has a custom Cobb map if you are running JB4 with PT S1. |

I'd like to apologize to those who PM'ed about the inlet pipes and are still waiting for a response. We have had our hands full with this:
http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1066417 Our inlet pipe is solid aluminum. It has machined ends to fit the OE turbo and intake. It also has an ear bracket which secures it to the motor. It was constructed using a fixture of the OE inlet pipe to ensure perfect fit. The flange for the intake system side is on a compound angle, so a normal 90 degree doesn't work correctly. According to the BMW parts catalog, this inlet pipe will fit: E82, E84, E88, E90, E92, E93 The price is $250 We are planning on posting pics later today. Thanks for your patience! -PURE |

I ran my car on 91 last week and I just have Pure, CP and JB4. There is a decent gain over the stock turbo, especially holding boost up top. Get the turbo, you will love it!

Yes I am strongly considering it. Might have to get one of those new inlet pipes to go with it. Thanks to all who replied to my questions!

Also, please describe the problem that this pipe is designed to solve (is there a bottleneck at the OEM turbo inlet?)

It has varying circumference between the intake connection and turbo inlet connect. Actually, the entire intake has varying circumference and is not circular all the way through. Stg1 and Stg2 turbos have bored out compressor housings, so the oem turbo inlet is somewhat of a bottle next as its thicker on the inside connection thus prevent full air flow. The inside connection of this is thinner and the tubing is wider throughout. It's really all about air flow into the turbo... Less of a gain to stock as the oem inlet tube is designed for the compressor bore but it may still add a bit of responsiveness due to the bigger port/pipe from intake elbow to inlet. Thank you for the explanation. What about the rest of the air intake system? I heard that getting an after market intake didn't do much for the N55 engine, but now you have me wondering if there are other bottlenecks before this inlet pipe that would limit this upgraded turbo. Did you guys replace your intake or using OEM intake? |

Our issue is there are no CAI's. I'm thinking PURE's inlet pipe in conjunction with an Injen intake, but the Injen is still very prone to heat... Last edited by iuhutch; 12-10-2014 at 12:36 PM.. |

So is the turbo inlet pipe the most restrictive section of the entire air intake system?

I'm interested in a black one too, but i will like to see a picture of both so we can see/compare size/dimensions and shape.
Second. Talking about CAIs. If the air is going to pass through the intercooler anyway why sacrifice more air for a couple of degrees in temp. Specially with 7'' FMIC, air is going to be a lot cooler than stock. |
