What's the difference between stage 1 and stage 2? Is it worth the wait if you only want to run pump gas?

(Sorry if this was answered but i don't have the time to go through 80+pages.)

Have you tried visiting PureTurbos website? Its only 1 page.

Stage 2 is currently in development. If you buy stage 1, Pure will give you full credit when you upgrade to stage 2.

Funny, I just emailed Pure Turbos the other day with a similar question. Here is their reply:

"A LPFP upgrade is not required for the N55 Stage 1. Our 335i is still
running the stock LPFP. The Stage 1 upgrade is great for 91 pump. It
will unlock a lot of top end power you have been missing. The stock
turbo runs out of steam quickly after 5k rpm. We did a 91 pump back to
back dyno with our 335i a while back. You can find that info on the
original #1 post of our Stage 1 thread.

The stage 2 turbo will require increased octane to enable full potential
of the turbo. The current N55 fuel system can't flow enough fuel volume
to keep up with a Stage 2 turbo, so a meth kit will also be required. In
the near future, HPFP upgrades will be available."

I did and their website said nothing about the details and benefits of stage 2.

Thank you for a helpful response. Looks like I'll probably go stage 1 but we'll see after i complete my bolt-ons.

So i take it that this actually doesn't exist considering their response? http://hpfpupgrade.com/Products/Show/Bmw/N54/N54-55+Fuel+System+Upgrade

Indeed this product does not exist.

The fuel system consists of 2 fuel pumps. 1 for the low pressure side (it is located in the tank) and 1 for the high pressure side. If you run only 93 or 91 octane fuel you don't require any fuel pump upgrade nor meth system. However if you want to get the maximum out of stage 1 up to 30/40% E85 can be mixed with 91/93 and your fuel system will still be ok.

I recommend you check out this company if you want to upgrade your fuel system: http://www.fuel-it.biz --> Currently they offer stage1/2 upgrades for the low pressure side and they are working on an upgrade for the high pressure side as well for our cars.

I have the fuel-it stage2 LPFP on my car and am very happy with it. When they release the HPFP upgrade I will get it as well. This will allow me to unlock the full potential of the soon to be released stage2 turbo upgrade.

You could get stage 1 now and upgrade it to stage 2 later if you want to.

In a perfect world, I would like to run pump gas and have max performance. I'm pretty ok with mixing in e85 as their is a pump close to where i live. It would just be a pain making sure I am always pouring in the right mix. I don't want to do a meth setup at all.

Any suggestions on what an ideal setup should look like for those first two scenarios?

Have you tuned your engine yet? You can unlock at least 30-40 HP and an equal amount of torque just with a tune. I have a custom tune from PTF (pro tuning freaks) and highly recommend it. It takes some time and effort on your part to dial it in, but its worth it IME. I don't have an E85 station near me, so I'm thinking of getting the stage 1 turbo and having the tune adjusted for pump gas, then maybe having a second engine map set up for E85-boosted gas that I can switch over to if/when I'm able to get some E85 in the tank. Best of both worlds that way. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

That sounds like a great idea - I like the idea of having 2 maps. I have the BMW PPK tune so I don't think I'll get much out of a tune. However, I am very close to ordering FMIC, DP, Cobb, CP.

Why not run the stage 2 turbo with 91 or 93 octane on one map, and with another more aggressive map use octane booster ala race-gas.com? Would this not potentially provide equivalent results as a meth spray?

I had the BMW PPK tune before I got my tune. I did not notice much difference between the PPK and Cobb stage 1 sport (my starting point with PTF as I had stock engine and 91 octane gas), but I got a definite and significant power boost going from Cobb stage 1 to PTF custom tune.

No sorry, we are patiently waiting on the last component needed. The recent ETA we were given was "mid-January".

Hi Hutch,

Have an ETA on those inlet pipes? I am curious about those as well. Shame Pure has none for F series cars yet. I am eager to test them!

I was able to do some PBOX testing earlier this week. In preparation for stage2 arrival to have some comparison data.
100-200kph : 8.1 seconds
60-130mph: 9.45 seconds

I guess I could do that a little bit faster now that I have the recaro pole position seats installed (55 lbs savings) + liteblox lightweight battery (50 lbs savings) + rear bench removal (55 lbs savings). If weather permits I will do a retest and hope for 100-200kph in 7.9ish and 60-130mph in 9.2ish?
