my turn

I took mine in. I got CEL, long cranks and the half engine light 3 mornings out of the week. They determined it was my turn. So far everything is back to normal. Feels like a new car again.

The broken bolt is external and holds the fuel supply line to the engine block. It was broken so they extracted the broken bolt threads from the bolt hole in the engine block and replaced the bolt. English grammer is not the SA's strong point.
Look at the bright side, at least they did something "in addition" of the minimal work they needed to do. I have to give credit where the credit is due.

The car is stock with no tune. I'm hoping that it isn't the pump this time. We'll see what they say on Monday. I'll keep you up to date as I find out more.

I drove my E36 M3 today and I'm actually starting to wonder why I'm giving up the reliability. The M3 is plenty fun, just not as fast or modern. I hope that BMW can finally fix it this time because I'm starting to have doubts.
doesn't the MD lemon law have to do w/ the first year of ownership?

Maybe, but last I checked I don't live in MD. Every state is a little different.

Man, that sucks. You get the new software with the new pump? Was it the 943 for sure? Running a tune?

My SA said the new pump was better and that the software requires less pressure on startup which was the reason for all the failures. Not sure how accurate his information was but I've got my fingers crossed.

Must tuners make adjustments for the new pumps/software?

Probably your injectors and or plugs. Mine went a few days (numerous misfires) after having the hpfp replaced. All new injectors and plugs now and my car has never run stronger. 943 + software FTW!!

Yea because even after the service mechanic brought the car out he said it was idling kinda rough at cold start, but the car pulls strong when its warm, I'm probably gonna call back and have them replace all the injectors and plugs. The car idles like this with stock downpipes and stock tune. So i know its not either of these causing it.

So my car is 100% good again...943 pump installed about a month ago, hit limp mode on the highway. It was traced back to first being an issue with the fuel pressure regulator and then the actual pressure regulator sensor.

I've been starting to get signs of HPFP failure. My cranks have been increasing ever so slightly. I have the biggest problem on cold starts. About a 5 second crank at times. I began removing my mods for a service visit, because the last thing I want to do is get stuck on the highway with a failed pump. I removed my downpipes and now all hell broke lose. The long crank is gone (it starts up pretty fast), but after 2 seconds the car bogs bad. If I don't apply a pretty good amount of throttle the car will stall out on me. This only lasts for about 5 seconds.. and literally the SECOND the car goes off of that "warm-up" mode where it drops the engine rpm down, my problems go away completely - car runs fine, idles fine, etc.

What do you guys think?

BTW, I'm on the original pump at 41,000 miles and have been fully modded for about 38,000 of that. I changed my spark plugs around 20k.

My 535i started getting long cranks the past few days but only on restarts after car is warm. It's already had one pump replaced but I don't think it's the new 933. Guess it's time to take it back in and see what they have for it this time.

I think it is very good news that the 943 and 933 pumps have been out for months and there have been no "confirmed" reported failures. After several months with the other pumps, there were dozens of reported failures on the various BMW forums.

But you don't have any reports of 933 failing, do you? That's what you were implying in your previous post.

I have not seen one confirmed report however have read several posts claiming that there are confirmed reports. Please post at least one invoice showing a failed and replaced 943 or 933 pump.

You gotta read the forums more! Just yesterday a guy posted about his 933 pump that's failed!

These New fuel pumps are great
