Correct. I actually just wrote a thread on playing around with these systems in a low traction environment..

Ok- I might as well throw in another interesting factoid. As I was picking up my 335i a couple of weeks ago, my CA showed me a neat trick:

If you use the actual key to lock the front driver door, hold the key rotated to right for a few seconds and all 4 windows (if open) will close. This might be handy if you had a bunch of passenger exit your car and forget to close the windows.

That has been discussed here before, but it's worth mentioning. And to clarify for those who don't know, by "actual key," mc4b means the metal key inside the fob.

For those of us with CA, we can do this without disassembling our key fob just by touching the "lock" ridges a second or two longer than normal. Besides the 4 windows, the sunroof also closes. For the 2006 models, the mirrors also fold in.

this is worth bringing up because it still amazes me how little known it is. the hold lock to roll up the windows and hold unlock to roll down the windows has been a feature standard on german cars since the early 90s. the e36 bmw had it when it came out in 93 and i'm sure it wasn't the first. even my 95 gti (a $20k car) had it.

I'm sure it's been mentioned that holding the unlock button on the key down for several seconds will open all windows and sunroof. But holding the lock button down doesn't close them unless you are fortunate enough to have a non-North American version. Since I don't have CA I don't know if this is also the case with CA enabled cars (I'm not referring to closing the windows with the hand on the handle).

I'd go check to see if the metal key turned the the left opens all the windows but it's raining now.

Even with CA, the key fob works the same -- holding down the lock button doesn't close all the windows and sunroof (US spec). You have to use the ridges on the door handle to do that.

you are right, in NA cars, holding the lock button on the remote does not close all the windows/sunroof. i believe they were afraid of potential litigation. but it definitely works if you use the keyhole. that was really what i was referring to in my post above. my e36 and 95 gti only came with keys

Another one... the volume knob (and on the steering wheel) will adjust the navigation speaking directions. Just dial the volume while directions are given.

Same thing for the phone function (yeah, that one's a little more obvoius)

Unless you have the pull-out drawer installed, I believe. But where's the spare tire?

You know, I've tried that because I'd read that in the past, and mine doesn't work. Should there be a hook or something up there to catch the cover?

try pushing a drop harder? It takes some force..

thus it can be concluded that the RPM's fall faster and climb slower with the clutch depressed because there is more resistance on the engine (i.e. clutch friction)
it can also be concluded that with the clutch engaged, the extra rotational inertia of the clutchplate and gearbox (even when in neutral basically half the gearbox is spinning) can cause the rpm to fall slower.

and with it disengaged, that is gone.

Nice post. If I'm feeling like a lively drive I've started activating DTC in all conditions. It still provides intervention, but is less intrusive.

I tried a hard start with everything off yesterday - serious wheelspin !

I did not know about my E90, that the variable redline (see sig.) in the tach doesn`t work when I (blind-)ordered it in feb. 2005 (Dealer said its there - his conclusion from 5 series)

At least you get an oil temp gauge. I was dissapointed that the E90 didn't get this function. It's to let you know the safe max RPM for a cold engine. With no oil/water temp gauge it's a guess now.

I 'assumed' this would be the same as my e60 as well. Then I wondered why the ticks didn't dissapear as the engine warmed up.

Unfortunately the 330i E90 does not have oil temp. Only the petrol coupes & the 335i limos do.
It`s a guess now, indeed!
