I have had my 335 for less than a year and have had this noise the entire time (You can hear it: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...36&postcount=1 ). I didn't think much of it until I had the car checked by my mechanic yesterday and he said it is the actuator motor going bad. The light isn't on yet and the system works properly but it sounds like it will eventually fail and the mottor will have to be replaced. I am running almost stock, only DCI and Alpina B3 TCU flash.
I see there are few of you guys who had that problem and had to replace the motor. Is there an after market re-inforced version of it or I will have to just replace it with the stock unit when it goes bad? |

I'm sure it's a bit late but I'm in for this...with the torque I'm making its really just a matter of time...
Any updates on this thread? It's over a year old...

No updates. As soon as someone breaks one and then sends it to Jack, progress can start on his end. He doesn't see any point in messing with them until people are actually breaking them. He's got a line of GTRs out the door that he's busy with until then.

My 320d xdrive is 177hp and 71000 Kms.. ONLY
I was used to hearing that "clack" noise under the car as it gradually appeared until I saw 4x4! and ABS defaults displayed So I took the car today to my local garage who quickly found out my actuator had been worn out just the way you show on page 8 The actuator is BMW part 27107546671 and I beleive E9X have the same as mine. Just like some of you, I will have to pay a 800$ bill to get the part replaced by the same S***ty one. I just can't find out what I have done wrong to make this part last so short... No crazy start, no ice racing, just me driving my touring daily as any family man does.

Got my car back today from the garage, this hidden defect has cost me 885$
For that price, I've asked to keep the actuator in order to show you and the people who promote the Xdrive at the skiing resorts in France

The problem is that this worm gear screw is knackered.
This may come from a TOO frequent actuation of the Xdrive. I have just been told that a BMW PuMA case would blame the asymmetrical wheel mount.. Wider rear tyres give a bigger rolling resistance and would make the transfer box work more often. Can the people in this thread who once had the problem confirm wether they have asymmetrical tyres? (or not)

I guess no one cares anymore. It is easier to buy new than repair obviously :/
