Living far from home and away from an existing social network was probably one of the better things to happen to me in undergrad. For the first semester it was pretty hard, but as you learn to immerse yourself and network it snowballs and becomes much more enjoyable, and, in my case, interesting, as I'm not hanging out with the same people I did for the last 10 years doing the same dumb shit. You learn to act much more independently. Your thought process is under more scrutiny and you become more aware of it. Is moving far from home crucial for this to happen? Not at all. But it does facilitate it. Which probably sounds retarded coming from a guy who works for his dad and lives at home, but I will contend I'm in a much better position than many of those I knew growing up who chose that route.

I'm a senior at DePaul in the College of Commerce (Management major/HR concentration). The business school is very good, great professors and a ton of opportunities for work experience/internships. They also host a ton of networking events and job/internship fairs. It's not the typical "college experience" since it's mostly commuters and dorm space is limited, but it's a whole different experience having pretty much the entire city as your campus. During freshman year you have to enroll in a "Chicago course" where you basically go out and learn about the city, in mine I got to move into the dorms a week before class started and take architecture tours. Schedule a campus tour if you haven't already. If you wanna know anything just PM me.

Iowa breeds dropouts from my experience. I had a bunch of friends go there and drop out cuz they partied too much. They probably had no business going to a Big 10 school in the 1st place but Iowa was pretty much accepting anyone with a 2.8 or better from my HS.

When I was picking a university way back in the day I had the following academic offers:
DePaul - partial ride Loyola - full ride Georgetown - partial ride Stanford - partial ride UofI - oddly nothing MacMurray College??? - full Augustana - full So, not that I am super smart but I do really well at school and standardized tests. In practice, I'm an idiot....as you know if you follow this thread. Anyway, I ended up picking DePaul because of my desire to pursue a commerce degree (accounting), their reputation, and most importantly, the ability to work internships and pad my resume, network with the major firms. It served its purpose. I made some good friends and had my share of druken debauchery. However, if I could go back, I'd take that G-town offer. Not so much because DePaul was a bad fit, but I would likely have pursued a different degree altogether. DePaul is HS with elevators minus the stupidity. Edit: Defining served its purpose as got to work with alot of good firms during my education and figure out exactly how I wanted to go about my career (non-public) and had many job offers after my graduation taking one from the company I was interning with at graduation. Also, I am not oblivious to the fact that part of the reason for my scholarship offers and acceptance to some more prestigious schools was the fact that I fall into a "desirable demographic" in terms of recruitment with my Hispanic ethnicity.

So, last night we went to the coaches cabaret fundraiser at my girl's cheer gym for our level 5 team to go to Worlds. If you have ever been to the Baton Club, that is what it was.
Gay men (maybe 1-2 straight) and some female coaches putting on a drag lip synch show....one of the female coaches is H-O-T hot. I'll try and sneak a pic this weekend. Another that I thought looked weird and dressed weird, cleaned up real nice in a dress selected for her...and she could dance, and you know what that means. Hot coach, for the record, cannot dance...but oh my has she got an ass. Otherwise, it was gheyness on parade....and funny as hell.
