If you think thats expensive check out their full car system

The Critical MASS ESL System is just that, an entire system built on the ESL platform. It is a full surround (5.1) system that is designed for multi (4) position placement in the vehicle. The system requires installation by our design / engineering team in either NY, or LA. We provide shipping and insurance to and from any location within the contiguous US states. For more information, please contact ICON Enterprises.

Critical MASS CES5.1 True Surround Sound Electrostatic Hybrid Speaker system.

“The Best Car Audio System I have Ever Heard”
Ben Oh, Editor Car Audio & Elec.

Starting at $259,000.00 this system is definitely the most expensive Car Audio System In the World. That is, because not only is this the best 5.1 Car Audio system in the world, but most importantly, Audio experts worldwide agree that this is: “The worlds Best sounding Audio System.” Incredibly it’s in a car, and also happens to be the only true 5.1 Car Audio system in existence.

According to Zoo's very helpful find, the standard hifi system is the easiest to upgrade (the one I've got), if you don't have an amp socks then I'm pretty sure it's the baseline audio system. And apparently the head unit needs to be coded for use of an amp, not sure if tuning God vince has done this before!

Problem is the head unit is now an NBT so the standard stuff that relates the hifi no longer applies

Actually no, the NBT was coded for HIFI. After the NBT install the sound worked even when the MOST optical connectors weren't plugged in. Your amp is analog so its the easiest to upgrade

From memory, left hand compartment in boot? - opposite side to where the battery is?

Also from memory - a popular replacement amp was the JL Audio XD600/6 V2 (6 channel to drive the underseats, front doors and rear speakers).

http://www.jlaudio.com/xd600-6v2-car...plifiers-98605

I know this is an E90 - but a good install:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=518402

Here is a very good E92 M3 install that uses Alpine amps instead of JL:
