I have two documents that cover the new engine and transmission.

Yes it is correct. There is always a gap in production from one generation of M vehicle to the next. In fact the M3 and X5 M are on hiatus right now, awaiting the next generation models to be ready.

The M2 CS can fill some M4 shoes in the meantime.
