tvandnav2go poll

For those of you who have it in your e90s, let me know the length of time you have had it installed and your overall thoughts please! If you regret it, why?

I have read in this forum about the TvandNav2Go and i was thinking of buing it, but... If i did not misunderstand you can watch your favorite dvd movie but not on the OEM Dvd_Rom of the I_Drive.... So i thought... So much wiring for just to plug in an external DVD Player????? I beter go and buy a portable DVD player with an lcd monitor incorporate to watch movies in the car.

i have had mine since nov. of 05. i do not regret it at all. i just wish i had one of the newer models(so i can use the menu button to activate the module; i have to use the remote to activate it). i have installed a handful of these and also helped some members over the phone and over pm's. i have mine set up with a half din dvd player, video ipod, and reverse camera.

I have one of the brand new units that works through the Idrive sitting in the box it came in for about a month now. I cant fiqure out how to hook it up. I had the DIY for the old unit that is posted here and this new unit is completely different. I would love to find out how to install this unit

As far as the OP's question, I am dying to get this installed

1 thing to say.
Read my signature... I would trade every single mod i have on my car and keep this one in a heartbeat.
And i don't have a dvd player. I feed everything through my video ipod.

YouYou: That is the setup I am interested in using. Only an ipod video. So you are pleased with the result and nothing has blown up in the Idrive yet? I am mostly concerned with losing the warranty to Idrive should something go wrong.

I am extremely pleased with the setup... It works perfectly and nothing has blown up or gone wrong.
And even the Bmw Tech guys trip out everytime i go in for service watching a movie on my screen...
If you have a good relationship with your Bmw service advisor then there should be no problems...
And ntpcrew helped me out alot so just pm him and he'll help you.

First time through: I have no idea. I probably spent 5 or 6 hours in the car. Some things because parts of the DIY weren't clear or didn't apply because the tvandnav2go unit varies in some areas. The included instructions mine as well have not even been included, they're so bad.

length of time, if I were starting all over knowing what I know now: 1 hour.

Regrets: None. I just have a very small issue of some audio noise and I'm not sure what's causing it (nor did the guys at AutoZone, which was disturbing lol). It's very slight and is only audible during completely quiet scenes after turning the sound up pretty high.

I use my iPod Classic (180gb) for all of my video. It's fantastic. I have converted 30 or so movies and TV episodes. Nothing like pulling up next to other BMW owners just far enough so that they can see and hear me watch Pirates of the Caribbean or Transformers.

And it goes without saying that ntpcrew was absolutely instrumental in keeping me sane throughout the process, as I'd never done anything like it before.

im glad i was able to help you out also. as far as your audio noise, how are you connecting your video ipod again? are you connecting it thru the headphone jack or thru the bottom dock connector? also if you have time, try connecting a dvd player to the module to see if you get hte hissing noise still. just connect your dvd player composite cords to the module and just get power from your garage outlet(haha i know it may soudn and look funny, but its just to test the hissing sound).

Should I get mac roadshow connector or the home show connector that goes through the pin jack? the reason why I am asking is because I have the 6fl factory ipod option so the ipod already charges and is connected through the bottom usb port (or whatever it is). I do not need the cigarette lighter 12 volt connector option plus do not want to unplug the 6fl option everytime I want to watch a movie....advice???

i actually have the roadshow connector that i purchased from ebay for around $25. i like it better because it connects thru the dock connector; also you do not have to attach the cig light adapter in order for it to work. you only need to connect it if you want to charge it. i also think that connecting it thru the dock connector is better because it locks your volume to only be controlled thru the car volume. i know on the homeshow connector it is connected thru the headphone jack. you would be adjusting the volume on hte ipod and the car radio. i also dont like how it sounds thru the headphone jack incomparison to the dock connector.

Thanks! so what happens with the 6fl connector I am currently using if I use the roadshow one? Can I still play the ipod through the aux option and see the songs download on the idrive if I only use the roadshow? Or would I have to move between the two connectors depending on what I want to do (movies vs songs only)

unfortunately.. you would have to move between the 2 connectors based on movies and songs only.

haha ok I will have to get all the muisc videos to my favorite songs then and keep the single connector for most of the time. Did you snip off the ashtray recharger and hardwire the 12 volt or did you do the istall with the cig lighter permanently connected?

i actually installed the dual rear cig outlets in my car. i also swapped the front cig lighter/ashtray for a sungalss holder. i took the leds off of the cig lighter and used it in the sunglass holder. i have my roadshow wire fed from under the sunglass holder. i do not even use the roadshow cig charger at all. i have that tucked under the center console. here is a pic of my setup.

this is an older picture, but i have the roadshow wire under the rubber insert. i use the roadshow adapter for ipod movies and the belkin adapter for music. i hope this helps you out.

also her is a pic of the rear outlets that i have installed. also some other pics with the leds in the sunglass holder and some misc pics.

awesome set up! Thanks for the pix...is there a way to set up the roadshow wires if I have my ipod in the center console? Like maybe run the wires through the center area to the box? Have you ever seen this before?

yup u can do that. i actually did the reverse of that setup for my belkin adapter. since you will have the roadshow connected to the navandtv2go module, which will be either mounted inbetween the cup holders or right by the passenger footwell; u will be running it thru the center console. basically, you just have the wire run along the passenger side of the center console and then it will come up from under the rubber insert of the center console box. you will just have to modify the rubber insert, by cutting it a little. here is a pic of hwta mine looks like. i needed to run the wire up for the aux cable and my remote for my bass boost control.

you get the idea from this pic.

I've had mine for quite a while now.
Although I rarely use my front screen, it's great to have when I do use it.
I have two headrest screens that go along with the module along with wireless headphones. All the audio signals are piped into the AUX input so the whole car can hear it.

With the new software update, you can now switch to AUX from the steering wheel controls whereas before, I had to use Idrive to switch it to AUX which was annoying.

If I was to do it again, I probably wouldn't buy the system only because I can get a cheaper setup than what I have now but it's still a cool option to have only because of the possibilty of running a backup cam to the screen.

My SA knows I have a DVD player installed in my glovebox but I don't think they know about the system. As long as you wire it correctly so that the idrive screen comes on with just the radio position, the dealer can't tell. If you have it wired so that you have to have it on ACC position (where all your dash lights are on), they will know somethings up.

ok, so I'm new to this whole navandtv2go deal.......So with this setup, you can watch movies thru your Ipod video? or do I need another DVD player to watch movies. I have a 2nd gen Ipod Classic 80GB. I'm super confused with how this is set up. I've read ntpcrew13's description, but still has no clue. I probably wouldn't install this myself if I bought one, but to have some shop install it for me.

Any help is appreciated, very interested in how this all comes together.......

Thanks
