Need your opinions, smoked tail lights?
I have smoke/tinted taillights on my e92. I have never really understood why people like them, and I have had them on both of my BMWs this e92(previous owner got it installed)and my old e39 5 series( gift from a relative because of cracked taillight).
I have seen pics of other lci e92 without tint and I like the bright led red look so I though about removing it, but everyone says I shouldn't cause it looks good not one person has said I should. so I'm curious about what you guys think. Should I get rid of it or keep it? |

I think if you don't like it take it off. If you like it keep it. Too many people here will tell you that you HAVE to do one or the other, whatever they like. Get some opinions but in the end do what YOU like. IMHO it looks great

Do what you like my man! Always good to get opinions but at the end you are the one who is going to see it daily and not any of us so at the end always do what the heart says
I personally think it is a very dark tint and kills the whole look of the car. makes it look like a black patch on the rear but again to each his own. |

I did not do it, previous owner liked them and put them on. I was curious about seeing other people's comments, positive or negative. thanks for the advice

It all depends on how dark the smoke is. My E88 has a light shade applied to it, it's not blacked out by any means but it gives a nice depth and contrast to the tail lights. IMO it absolutely looks superior to stock. OP maybe try lamin-x in a lighter tint, they offer several variations of it.
As is, IMO it's too dark. Agree that a true blackout of the tails looks ghetto most of the time.

No.
I always associate blacked out tail lights with the DUB scene and them 28" wheels. As others have stated, it makes the lights look like theyre made of cheap plastic that was left unfinished.

IMO I don't like the look plus I believe it is a safety hazard.

+1 on the safety hazard comment. If someone rear ends you then no matter even if it is the other person's fault, you can still be ticketed and maybe deemed at fault for not having the lights clear enough (stock light output) as they are supposed to be.
I also agree with one of the member above who said that maybe a light tint would look classy while it still shows quite a bit of the red color. |

thanks for the replies guys. did not know that 90s is the origin. where I live I see it on the dub like cars and ricers, but also lifted up diesel trucks. about the safety thing at night its pretty visible thanks to the leds, so I'm not about worried about that.

I also like the look of red the best but some cars can really pull off the tinted look. I think it only looks good if the correct tint is applied and still gives the glossy appearance. The matte of the VHT does not look good in my opinion, even though I have it on my truck and think it looks fine. If you go to red then possibly you would want to think about just tinting the reverse light section so the white does not stick out as much, however that may not be as much of an eye sore on a white car

Blacked out tails are ghetto. Ditch 'em.

here's some extra pics showing tint lights on and off
some people who don't like smoked lights say it matches the black roof, side mirrors of the car and that it looks good. what I don't like is the the inner part of the lights on the trunk don't look as bright as the outside lights and I love oem red(3rd pic) |

It's just a bit too dark for my tastes but at night with the lights on, I bet that looks really aggressive and nice. The smoke helps create contrast and draw out depth in the "bars" of light in the tails.
