Need Help with Misfire issue in Cyl 6
Hey Guys
I am about to torch this car, I am so frustrated with it. Every time I fix something something else breaks. So last month I replaced all spark plugs and the car ran fine the whole time. A couple weeks ago it was raining really hard and I was driving around town getting stuff done and then the car started to misfire and stutter. I figured OK must one for the coils, so I did what my buddy told me which is while the car is ruining remove the coil plug if it gets worse then the coil is OK if not that means the coil is fine.... So I got it narrowed down to the last Cyl closest to the fire wall. I replaced the coil and the car is still not running right. I tried another new coil no change, I get the car scanned it says Misfire in Cyl 6. Some posts here say it might be the injector, how can I trouble shoot that ? Also is true the only way to get a new injector to work with the car is by taking it to BMW for them to program it? Any thoughts here guys? I spent over 2K on this car int he last month and Im not even enjoying it before it breaks again. 2007 335i with a 124 KM on it Thanks |

+1. Its easy to change them over. Never pull the coils while the car is running that's a bad way to diagnose it.
It could be a bad plug again. Is your car modded? These cars burn through plugs when they're tuned. Did you check the gap on the plugs before installing them? One of the 6 plugs you received could have been miss-gapped and therefore faulty. The fuel injectors are also known to be faulty. Did you ever have them replaced under the recall? When I get a misfire I always go in this order: 1) Swap coil #6 with coil 5. If the misfire moves to cylinder 5 its the coil, otherwise move on to spark plugs. 2) Swap spark plug #6 with cylinder 5 plug. 3) If its not plugs or coils then swap injector 6 with injector 5.

Injectors are easy! Just download the program to code them in your laptop and get the appropriate cable. There is a diy here search in Google. Now if you buy the new style injectors you can only get them by 3s. Mean if 6 is malfunctioning you'd have to get injector 4 5 and 6. But by what your saying I'd bet on injectors. Same thing was happening to me but on cylinder 3.

If you get the new style injectors you can only replace 3 at a time. Now you can go around that and get some used injectors that are working and only have to replace injector 6. I have no idea if there is a recall if there is let us know.

Also if you decide to do that or anything electrical on your BMW . Do yourself a favor and disconnect the negative on your battery. You won't have to wait until it goes to sleep mode and it is a lot safer.

not 100% on this but i think even a used one would have to be coded to YOUR car.

You need INPA cable or BT cable. INPA cable is very cheap on ebay ($20-40). With INPA, you can code your car to have alpina trans etc... BT cable is around 175-200. If you have BT cable, you can add back end flash to stack with JB4.

I highly suggest you invest and get the INPA cable IF you are computer savvy, the software is free and it's in the coding section. If you are not savvy with computers get the BT cable, very simple GUI. |

there is a recall for injectors... depends on your year build 4/07 - 10/07 I believe.. But I've included the campaign in PDF. I had all 6 replaced and only payed for half the cost even though my car didn't fall within the build dates of the recall. I would talk to your local dealer and see if they can help you out any?
