What is that sensor by the ECU

Page 4, took my car to a shop to get it fixed, the locking mechanism is broken now. Trying to figure out what it is so I can order an other.

Can't recall exactly what it is but both of mine have been happily electrical taped out of the way for running on 3 years. So long as they're not just floating around in the engine bay I really wouldn't stress over that.

I wondered the same. I'm not 100% , but I think they're ambient temperature sensors (I'm guessing).

If you are referring to the sensor on the passenger side of the cowl, it is the sensor that detects odors for the auto re-circulate function of the A/C system.

The ambient temperature sensor is located in the front bumper.

Word. It's an "air quality" (AUC) sensor.

Different car, same concept:
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...the-uac-sensor

The temp sensor is in the front bumper.

Look at it with some light. You'll notice that there is a little circular slot in which part of the sensor clips into. Push it in with a small screwdriver while you easily rotate the sensor towards the front of the car and it'll come right out. This is the air quality sensor being discussed above in this thread.

The sensor on the driver's side is for the hood switch for the BMW factory alarm. If you don't have an alarm installed on your car, it is just pre-wired for it and the hood switch itself is not there.
