Has anyone upgraded their spark plugs?

Has anyone upgraded their Spark Plugs to handle the increased boost? instaed of replacing them with the same ones. I got this on my iDrive screen when the car said service due.I assume my plugs are going out due to the tune and mileage. I have 42k on the clock as of now.

Right now I don't know any other mfg that has spark plugs for the N54 engine other than the factory one which is a Bosch version.

Spark plugs are covered under warranty so I would get the stock ones especially if your 335i is still under warranty.

NYCGarbagePrince has upgraded his with iridium, there is another thread VERY recently about this. He was asked about specifics but has not responded as I'd yet.

Iridium plugs SUCK. People do the darndest things lookin for power. You can cross reference any plug. Pull it out, measure it, measure the threads, and you can find one. AA used to use iridium plugs and had problems out the ass until I found the ngk dcpr9e. Not even made for bmws. So, I think its sparkplugs.com, or some site that tells you where to measure, and then you cross them with other plugs. We deff need 1-2 degrees colder with so much more boost...Among other adders! Ill see what I can do!

Exactly what we talked about today at the shop. I know the car can benefit from colder plugs. You can get more aggressive with boost, a/f, and most importantly ignition timing.

a 9 heat range on an NGK plug is a VERY cold plug. I have used that heat range on cars with 25+psi boost. the NGK 9 heat range translates to a 27 heat range in denso plugs FYI.

Stock psi = 11, PROcede V2 or Attaché psi = 14.5. 3.5 psi is not so much more boost, IMO .

Here's a quote from the 335 Engine Technical Manual (see the top of this forum):

"Due to the proximity of the spark plug to the fuel injector nozzle, any divergence in the fuel spray may cause possible spark plug damage. This makes spark plug diagnosis an important part of N54 service concerns. Information gained by the spark plug diagnosis may indicate possible fuel injector faults. Spark plug replacement interval has been reduced to 45,000 miles for the N54."

Eugene was comparing the max psi that each tune achieves and the stock map can go as high as 11 to compensate for altitude. That is why Terry talks about how much power "stock" boost can make. The JBR basically makes the ECU apply the amount of boost it would at higher altitudes.

Spark plug heat rating doesn't have too much effect on knock resistance. It has a bigger effect on fouling characteristics. What would be far more desirable is a plug with a smaller gap.
