E85 questions...

Hello all,

I will be driving to a gas station this week end where I can get E85. I have never tried putting E85 in my tank before. Unfortunately there is no E85 station within close driving distance to where I live

My questions are, what ratio E85/93 can I safely use to start with? Can I even put E85 in my tank knowing I only have a G4 board and not a G5 board, and no backend flash?

Current mods: JB4 G4, DCI, Downpipes, Charge pipe.

I don't have a JB4, but I ran 3 gallons of e85 and the rest 93 to help clean up some timing corrections before I got an e85 tune. You really just have to pay attention to your lpfp pressure to make sure you don't have consistent drops into the low 60s.

I've been doing a little homework on this subject too, but I only have 91octane around me. just google "n54 e85 93 mix" and the first 4-5 results (all from e90post) have a lot of very good/interesting information regarding mixing fuel with e85.

Start with 3 gallons of e85 to 8 gallons 93 octane map5 you will def feel the difference. It is also not problem that you have g4. Move up the content if you know how to log and what to look for.

I put 4.5 gallons of e85 to top up the tank (that should be about 30/70 e85/93 ratio) and damn the car is FAST! WOT in 2nd gear and the rear wheels break loose completely on dry pavement, no grip! Third gear on e85 feels like 2nd gear on pump gas now

I'll do some logs today to check how the low pressure fuel pump is doing...

Definitely pull some logs, but I'll warn you now, that stuff is addicting. There's a station 40 minutes away from me, and when I first filled up I told myself I'd only go "once in a while"... Now I have 3 5/gal jugs in my garage, and a full tank blended, and I go everytime I need more fuel. I'm sure others can attest to the downhill slide after trying magic corn juice just once..

Russell over at N54Tech really helped me dial in the perfect E85 ratio for my car, especially not having the backend flash, so I recommend posting a log over there too that way you'll know how much cushion you have for next time you get more magical corn juice!

Sorry to sort of hijack this thread, but I am currently running on only a dci and upgraded charge pipe and bov. What can I do to make my car ready for e85? or could I use it already? I just really want to know because I live 5 minutes away from the nearest shell that sells e85

If you can't get E85 on a regular basis I wouldn't even try it.
It will ruin your experience on pump gas for good.

I had the same setup as you. Run 25-35% E85/93oct, Map 5 if you have a JB4, and have a blast.

If you don't have a tune, don't waste your money on E85. The car will not adjust in a good way for the fuel.

The jb4 is definitely next on my list, but you're saying I can just fill my tank with 70% 93 and 30% e85, set to map 5 and I'm ready? I've heard some people say there are some things you should upgrade first like maybe injectors before you start using it. I have no idea, I have no experience with e85 at all lol

25-35% is the common "safe" range on a stock low pressure fuel pump, the one in the tank. It can't produce much more fuel than that. More than 35-40% would require an upgraded LPFP. No need to upgrade injectors or anything. Port injection kits are now common, but only for those running highly modded setups (high boost single turbos, etc).

Dump some in, I filled my car to 3/4 93, and the rest E85, however you can start with a lower amount and work your way up as you get adjusted to it. Most important thing to do is datalog through the JB4 interface, and make sure everything is happy on the new found power. Post the .csv file from the log into the support section at N54Tech.com for Russell to review and confirm everything is ok, if you can't read them yourself.

Before you know it you'll be upgrading your LPFP so you can run more e85. It's addicting.

Alright thank you man. I just got beat by a local 370z yesterday and it wasn't acceptable so I'm getting the jb4, downpipes, and I'm going to look into e85. Should be enough to wake my car up a little bit

JB4 alone will make enough power for you to beat a 370z if he's stock.

That's the problem I don't think he is. He may have been bs but he said it dynoed at 350whp but I find that hard to believe since he only beat my by a car and a half and he jumped

I hope he did Dyno at 350hp. A 335 w/ a tune & DCI a will make 370hp all day long. Find him on the road and give him another run! on a closed course ofcourse.

Oh yeah. We only race in Mexico.. But I'm I'm certain I'll get him with just a tune because I haven't had my car long and I found out I wasn't driving the car like I should have been. I'll let you guys know the results when I track him down again lol
