Custom Paint Color and European Delivery

My salesman told me that BMW will do custom "paint to sample" on a 3-series for $2,400, and I'd really like to go that route as I'm looking for something different than the 1,000 3-series in my neighborhood. (I was going to buy a Porsche Cayman S at dealer invoice from a friend who owns a Porsche store, but I can't rationalize paying $20K more for a car that is signifcantly slower than a 335i.) Anyway, after looking at Porsches for a while, I really like their speed yellow color, and am thinking about doing that on a 335. (That, or the Midnight Blue color from the E46 M3.) Information on custom paint is almost nonexistent on the web, but from what I've read, some people say that it can be done with European Delivery, and others say that it can only be done on US pickups. Thoughts? Thanks for any help.

P.S. No, I wouldn't consider having a stock color repainted, as that will absolutely destroy resale value on the car.

You can do a custom paint irrelevant of the delivery. The ED won'y affect things at all.

You just need to pay the extra $$$ for the paint.

$2400 seems about right, we pay at least that much up here plus a $400 special order fee.

No web info on paint. You basically pick a BMW color and ask the dealer if you can get it, or give them a list. They contact BMW AG and they'll let you know.

you cannot custom order paint from BMW anymore. They discontinued that ability to do so.

The cost is actually 2500 and you have to pick a color from the current pallete. Also the Cayman S is not significantly slower than a 335i. Its really just a little slower.

Just so you know, the Cayman S 6 Speed is one fast ass car...I should know, as I own one (as well as a 2007 3 series E-92). Also, the Porsche is the most reliable car built in the world according to Consumer Reports.

I'll bet anyone $100 that you CANNOT do custom paint on a European Delivery.
