FBO cars - what do you tell ur insurance?
For those who have modded cars, what do you tell your insurance companies and what do you hide?
Having exposed DCIs are defects (therefore I guess insurance can blame the extra power and void the insurance claim?) Having a JB4 is also illegal from what I've read How do you get around this from an insurance point of view? |

I asked my insurer (Just Car) and they said as long as the modifications are road legal then the only thing it will change is increasing the agreed value by the value of the modification.

i thought you have to tell em everything, orelse your whole insurance can be voided when you have an accident.
possible they wont pay out your car. aami is cheap. + covers all mods i have. and not that bad at all in price. i got a feeling my recent muffler delete is gonna void it. lol |

shannons or enthusiast insurance cover all mods, and agreed value if you're willing to pay a higher annual premium

Intake is legal - I believe there is a one air related mod rule.
So if you do intake, you're not supposed to do intercooler from my understanding.. Last edited by 7smurfs; 12-01-2014 at 11:10 PM.. |

In VIC, the cops have no right to defect any car with a pod filter so long as it is secured AND if your car is in accordance to the "one intake mod" rule whether it is enclosed or not. Also from EPA site: "Dry element pod type air cleaners are permitted on EFI vehicles. Oiled, oil-soaked or fluid-treated elements are not permitted. Any sensors integral to the original system must be retrofitted to the same approximate location." |

Um no i dont think its quite as simple as your policy can be voided simply because you have a muffler delete... AFAIK they would have to prove that modification was the reason or a contributing factor in the accident that resulted in you being at fault, if you were even at fault...

spoke with aami and all good. no need to declare mods unless it changes the value of your car.
if you have roll cages then they won't insure you since it's for racing etc.. |

They might not mention mods in the policy, but they do require the car is legal and roadworthy.
That basically means no mods. Maybe some wheels, but nothing else. |
