N54 misfire/hesitation between 2500 and 4500 rpm

I have a 2008 N54 335i with about 75k miles. It recently developed a misfire/hesitation between 2500 and 4500rpm. It is an auto but the misfire is most prominent when I hold full throttle in a high gear. Above 4500rpm the engine runs fine all the time.

I had similar misfire issues about 5k miles ago and replaced the coils and plugs which fixed the issues. The car has a JB4 and the issue is there with the JB4 off but is less severe.

I don't get any fault codes.

Anyone have any ideas? Given the problem happens in the mid range, it seems like another electrical problem but given the coils and plus are fairly new, it seems unlikely?

The car idles like a clock and outside of the 2500-4500 rpm range, runs absolutely fine.

Push it until it throws a code.

Did the misfire go away after replacing the plugs/coils at all? Which type of plugs are you using?

I'd say try to get a log of it happening without going crazy risking damage or something. It could be fuel related too, which a log may help us see.

I haven't tried replacing plugs and could again because they are so new. It will not throw a code, no matter how long I push it for.

I have pulled the JB4 off to see if that was the issue. I will put it back on and try to take some logs.

Injectors would most likely be your culprit if you only have 5k miles on plugs and coils

If it hasn't been done then get the valves blasted. Also have you used a BT tool or Cobb to look for shadow codes. Not all codes will show with standard OBDII reader.

Good luck.

You're using the correct plug right?
