E90 LCI halogen angel eye install - now with a problem :(
Hi guys,
I have been looking for 3 days now, searching many forums, including this one, but can't find anything. Can anyone link me, or give me a rough guide on installing some LED angel eye bulbs into my E90. Going to give it a go tonight (hopefully) but I don't want to have to take the wheel off if I can avoid it, as its just ball ache. Thanks Mike Last edited by mike18clark; 01-15-2015 at 05:28 AM.. |

Hey,
I installed mines 2 months back. It it surprisingly easy. Here is how you un-clip the light panel and plug the new bulbs in: http://luxangeleyes.com/guides/LUX_E90_LCI_Halogen.pdf (obviously, you don't need to take the whole headlamp off) To access the headlamp you need to remove the panel underneath your wheel arch. There's about 6 bolts that hold it there (an extra 2 if you have an M Sport) and to be honest you really need to remove the wheels in order to be able to do this. Removing it is easy, but putting the panel back on can be fiddly. Here's a good video: There's some more on YouTube if you search for "e90 angel eyes" It took me about 2 hours to swap all my bulbs (fogs, low, high and angel eyes) first time. So you won't really run into much trouble, but I did have my wheels off though. |

Thanks for the reply
Was kind of hoping to be able to get my hand in behind the arch lining without having to take the wheels off. Might give it a go then go from there |

As long as you haven't got the hands of a gorilla & you're prepared to lose some skin the whole job can be done from under the bonnet, no need to take the wheel, arch liner or even the access panel off

I did just have a look under the bonnet, and I was wondering if you could get into there :P

As for doing it all from the bonnet I suppose if you have tiny hands you could haha! I remember when I was putting my low and high beams on I used the space from the bonnet to hold the bulb whilst I used my other hand to position it in properly. I don't think you can change the angel eyes from the bonnet though, at least not on the Saloon, since the second Torx screw is a pain to access... and then you need to undo the connector and plug it in your new bulb etc etc... Maybe I am wrong! |

I did manage to replace the angels from under the bonnet only. Passenger side is easier as there is space. For the driver side you may have to remove the central air intakes temporarily.
you will loose some skin and will require patience to not drop tool or screws on the floor. Good luck. |

I've done it twice entirely from under the bonnet, the first time I changed all the headlight bulbs & the AEs, the second time just the AE, it's a very tight squeeze but entirely doable. The biggest problem I had was removing the power connector from the headlight bulbs, I'm sure someone had super glued the damn things on.

Hey man!
I installed mine just last weekend. I'm gonna start off by saying that the wheel has to come off. It's just the only way to really do this. It's very simple and easy, all you need is a socket, a ratchet or breaker bar, and a little strength. Jack up the car, and you're done. It's pretty simple. You remove the bolts holding the shield on under the wheel arch, take off the little plastic cover, and swap the bulb. It's easy and saves you $200 from a stealership install. There are a bunch of youtube videos online if you need any help! Good luck man, it's gonna look fantastic.

UPDATE!
Tried last night, and I will need to remove the wheel and the arch lining due to my fat hands Came across a problem though.... I had BMW quote me for a replacement when it went in for its service, and I laughed at them when they quoted me £94 for the replacement!!! The problem is, (I think they may have done this) is that the torx screws holding in the sidelight bulb have been rounded Also my drivers side arch lining cover (access to headlight panel) was broken so it doesn't fit anymore. Do you think this is worth arguing with the stealers about?? Thanks guys |

take the arch liner out, cut the little tabs off the old angel eyes, file some flats on the screws and remove with pliers or tiny spanner. plenty of room to work.
