My 335d to "d3" conversion
I'm sure I'll get a lot of "why didn't you buy and M" and "what a waste of money" comments, but oh well.
Let me start by saying that I had this d3 idea before I found out Alpina made theirs. And theirs is an Alpina D3 BITURBO anyway. Lol So here is where I started: ![]() Removed a bunch of parts: ![]() Everything from the radiator support forward: ![]() Hood and headlights installed: ![]() Mock fit with fenders: ![]() And here is the end result. The car was painted by a friend. He owns Evolution Auto Concepts in Dallas. If you are in the area and need work done, his work is top notch. d3 badge. Painted a custom green and the 3 was done in Black Sapphire Metallic to match the roof and mirror caps: ![]() ![]() Rear before badging and decals. I managed to get my 19X11 Vorsteiner wheels under this car. 295/30/19's in the rear and 19X11 275/30/19's in the front. Rear fenders are a little bit wider than a stock M3. I wanted to keep the 335d M-Sport bumper instead of using the M3 bumper. It is too "busy" for me. The 335d bumper looks cleaner. The trunk is a Vorsteiner Double Carbon Fiber CSL trunk: ![]() Rear after badging and decals: ![]() Here is shot of the custom fender grille decals I had made: ![]() Side shot: ![]() Now here is my favorite part. I used to have vinyl M stripes across the left fender and on the kidney grilles. I wanted something different. I Googled until I couldn't Google anymore and no one had done this until now*. I installed lights instead of vinyl. Inspired by the i8 and i3's. The front bumper is also a Vorsteiner GTS5 bumper. *Some X5 installed some tube looking ones while my car was being painted. Mine is hooked into the old fog light power and is coded to come on with the halos when the car is unlocked. Plus, I can see on the dash if the lights are on or off. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And here is a shot I just received that will be on Evolution's IG or website: ![]() I hope people like what I have done with this 335d and enjoy it more than hate on it. I didn't skip out on anything. All parts are top of the line. Hood, fenders, side skirts, mirrors, and headlights are all new OEM parts. I had the headlights taken apart and the inside painted matte black and added LED rings. I have a full set of Brembo's from a 135i that I have painted to match, but I'm waiting on the dust shields to get here. ![]() Anyways, time to get my tune sorted out. Thanks for the support everyone and I hope you like it! |

Nitpicky. But the 3 on the trunk badge is not the correct font 3. That one is the block font like in///M550d not the font on our cars. You can buy the correct one from the standard vendors
Edit : like the work and love the LEDs Edit if you like the block "M" font than get a block "d" to match. |

My only complaint is that you went backwards and put a pre-lci face on an lci car and have made it look older! Anyways, each their own, but I'm partial to the car you had before because I have the same one in a gasoline version

I love my 335d and plan to do some mods, but man you went way over the top. And not in a bad way! I'm pretty sure you can say there isn't another exactly like yours out there. Nice job and nice car!

Another guy around here I am friend with has Fiji Green accents on his 2009 M3 so I told him I wouldn't do much green. Lol I might do a quick write up on the grille lights. ![]() Quote:
Thanks! Quote:

![]() I did love my car before too. I just had the opportunity to do this, so I went for it. Quote:
I didn't explain. Haha. I had them cut and then widened. It's hard to explain, but he basically cut the fender and welded in more metal to extend it. I'm sure I could've went with M3 rear quarter panels since the guy I bought the wheels from had them on a stock M3, but I wanted to make sure there was clearance. It's a little wider than an M3, so that is a plus. ![]() Thanks! Stock headlights with stock bulbs. Just deleted the glass halo rings and replaced them with LED rings. Bright as it can get. Haha Quote:
Thanks! Well I recently lost my job, but when I recover, it will be LSD and suspension. Unless my chargeback fails for my tune…then I will have to get that first. Quote:
Not yet, but soon. And a big thanks to anyone I didn't quote. Glad you guys like it! |
