MPF coming soon?

Jarek just wrote to me that "the MPF will be ready in a few weeks."

And the people say Amen.

Is MPF a software thing or would we need to mail the DDEs back in yet again? Spider boot already on board my box. I understand a portion of MPF plugs into OBD port but don't know if something has to happen inside DDE beyond spiderboot. Please "school me".

You'll have to get an MPF from JR auto and that will plug into your obd port and communicate thru the spiderboot in your dde.. In short.. You can leave your dde in your car

I think if you do not yet have a tune you will still need to send in the ECU however.

Thats what it sounded like before. You would have to have your DDE sent in to be modified to accept the MPF. If not, that would be some serious icing on the cake

Yeah you initially need to send your ECM to JR auto so a spiderboot can be installed internally on ECM.. After that an MPF with the proper firmware can change tunes via obd at home

I've been on the phone with Jarek but between his enthusiasm and the language barrier, I had a hard time figuring out whether the tune is one-size-fits-all or whether I can optimize for economy. OK, don't be hating, I just like dialing up the mileage on long drives. Second, does anyone know how long it normally takes him to flash the ECU and send it back? I live near Washington D.C. Has anyone ever just driven up to Toronto and gotten the work done while you wait? Thanks, James

I'm wondering if the ECU will be locked to him. What if another tuner comes along and I want to give their tunes a try.

On another note, I wish there was a "key fob" system for multiple tunes. Fob one, big power, fob two, stock like Mopar is doing on the Hellcat.

My girlfriend keeps stealing my D and leaving her 370Z here for me to drive. I don't think she can handle 700 ft lbs of torque. She prefers my car because "it pulls so hard out of corners" compared to her Z.

Get her a COBB tuner for the 370, which you can easily select tunes with, and she will stop. Or teach her how to drive. As much as I like my D, a stock 370z is faster than a stock D, a tuned 370z is faster than a piggyback D, and revving to 7500 RPM is more fun than 4500. If she still takes your car, at least you can have fun in hers. Just think if she took yours and left you a mercury sable

Quite a few have driven from the US and I remember one of the guys being from Maryland. A DDE tune itself would take 2-3 hours. I'm talking about removal from your vehicle for the first time.

Hooper, I still don't drive her car. It's just too weak. If I want to go fast, I'll take my RX7 to 9k rpm. Faster still, I'll get on my Ducati. On another note, you'd be surprised how slow an auto 370Z is. I might get her a GTR. I dunno yet.

Within a few weeks, her car won't stand a chance. Downpipe showed up today and the meth kit showed up last week, and as soon as the 300Z NA Auto to twin turbo 5 speed swap is off my rack, the D is going under the knife.

Hi Just curious. Are you doing the DPF delete tune with meth? Which meth kit did you get?

Dumalei, I had a Devils Own kit for my ALH VW TDI but it never got installed. I got a 300psi meth pump to combat the pressure differential in the boost pipes. I wish Aquamist made a diesel kit, but I guess that's overkill, and they don't make a diesel kit. I do like Aqua mist system that's on my RX7. It meters meth flow according to fuel flow and it's mapable. Critical when you're trying to maintain afr, but on a diesel system, you're almost always running surplus air.

Faster does not mean more fun to drive......
I have a mitsu eclipse AWD with about 400hp that is a LOT faster than the D. I prefer driving the D. Just saying......

My stock RX8 handled better than my stock D (not m-sport) and was much more fun to drive... Especially when you wind it out and keep the revs up. Anyone with an 8 knows you need to BEEP them daily 😉

I love the D as a daily driver and it offers some driving pleasure as well. Great balance is the reason I got it.

I wish I knew what a "few weeks" meant. 3 is a few. So is 18. I'm ready for some power, I have a downpipe, but can't do the exhaust for a couple of weeks.
