New Rumor BMW to offer ECU Map for 335
This will put a hurt on VISHNU and others, I I will confirm in a couple of days, But apparently BMW wants in on the mod business. Also was told that the brembo 6 calipers like on the 135 may be an option as an add-on. Maybe just a Dinan ECU offered here in Europe but it is on paper so I will report back
I will post more as I see the memos here in Germany

No it didn't. It was scanned and definitely nothing about software for 335i. There were only a couple things for the 335i and none of it really performance related. I can't remeber what there was, maybe a strut bar and couple of other things that were pretty insignificant. We are still waiting for anything official from BMW about a flash.

So that is why I said this would be different than the previous rumors if we can see a scanned copy of the document. I didn't say I expect to see it, just that I would look forward to seeing it. Odds are its just more BS rumor like all the previous ones but this OP says hes seen it on paper so if thats the case, post it up ![]() |

I completely agree. I would put money down that BMW never releases a tune that puts anything out anywhere near M3 power. Granted the M3 has a different suspension, LSD, ...., but most people don't even know what those are. It makes me think of the sadly underpowered Cayman S, which could eat the 911 for lunch, because of the mid-engine and balancing, if Porsche gave it a little more guts. (It's still a great car, though.) Internal economics have more power than trying to bring the best product to market.

I'm betting BMW will sell a more-highly tuned version of the 335i (probably as standard) as the car approaches the end of its lifecycle and more and more powerful competing cars from other automakers appear on the market.
Why wouln't BMW offer a more tuned engine? Aftermarket companies have shown that it can be done. And BMW certainly has the financial and technological resources to do create a much better tune than these small tuning companies. I can't imagine that BMW will sit still and as competition improves and attempts to steal sales. Bollocks! The 335i AND the M3 will be improved. |

BMW *will* come out with a "performance software" for the 335i. It will be very mild compared to what we have seen though, even from Dinan. I am guessing in the 325chp area. It cannot surpass the outgoing M3 power regardless.
Watch around 2009-2010 MY. They will bring the M Sport over here, freshen up the car, add the software, and call it the E9x ZHP package. At that point, Id imagine customers can upgrade to the new software on any car. Same as you can get the E46 ZHP software and cams from BMW now. |

I believe it will still be marketed in the 325hp range. We all know the 335i makes more than the 300 currently advertised. Same will apply with this "new" software. Following the last 3 generations of tradition, it will NOT be sold as making more than the E46 M3 (333hp) regardless of if it actually does.

Sorry, this is not new news. It was rumored back when BMW announced the concept Tii, that they were getting back into the "performance" arena. BMW has already released an aftermarket catalouge of performance parts and it's rumored that LSD, ECU and suspension upgrades would be available. It won't be hard for the dealer to reflash your ECU and give you 350hp/350tq during a visit. Funny thing is BMW has always offered this on particular models. I think BMW's fears are exactly what many here mirror, than any "used" lease is going to have problems after all these boost junkies are done removing their piggybacks and turning their cars in. Thats why I personally hold those who went the Dinan route in high esteem, their not afraid to face the music. I bet the 09 cars will alter the ECU so current piggies won't work. -Garrett |

I, for one, wouldn't touch a used 335i. You just don't know what people did to it with all the "easy in/easy out" crap out there. Whether it works or not, driven safely or not. And that is *exactly* what BMW will want to stop. I would hate to be on the receiving end... aka ACSchnitzer being SUED over similiar actions. If it gets bad, it's gonna get real bad. |

I completely agree. Just like the Audi turbos. (From the 1.8t from 1997 on, the S4 biturbo, to the current 2.0t) The fact that they have made pushing these engines so easy makes me want to know exactly how each mile was driven since it left the factory.
