How to protect your front end at the track?
So I am finally all set to take my new baby out on the track. So, what are you all doing to protect your front end at the track? painters tape, clear bra, nasty black bra???
I know each time I've take my STi to the track it looks pock marked after each track day. All I usually tape up are the lights. |

If you are anal about it..use blue painters tape. BTW, you will get laughed at..but its your car...do with it what you want.
I get more damage from driving on 880 northbound than any track I have ever been on.

painters tape ftw although im most likely going to get a clear bra sooner or later. My friend and i were the only cars there that were painters taped up. There was a Ferrari 360 modena that left after 2..3 sessions because there were soo many rock chips on his bumper and he didnt want anymore. I talked to his friend that stayed at the track and supposedly he is going to repaint the whole front bumper.

I say get an ugly regular bra and put it on for track days, then tape up the headlights. That's what I'd do, but I'm also putting on mudflaps to prevent cone rash on the body of my car during autocrosses, so I may be a bit... off.

Do a google search for "racing tape" and you'll get all kinds of alternatives.

Just get a clear bra if it is not too late (ie, meaning you can still get one without repainting); or use tape.

That's what I used to do on my e46. With this car I just went ahead and did the full hood clear bra. Looks GREAT! Of course now I'm afraid to put painter's tape on the lights because it don't know how tape will effect the plastic. So far so good though.

I have a clear bra and it works great! You probably get worse chips during everyday driving cuz the roads always seem to have crap these days.

I wouldnt leave it on that long, especially if your car sits out in the sun all day.

I personally have left the tape on for 7...8 days and it came off clean. I wouldn't use this method as a bra (leather or clear bra). Remember, we use this as a temporary solution just for a track day. This is not supposed to replace a clear bra. Its just a temporary solution till i cough up the money for a full clear bra. |

My front bumper and hood are full of rock chips..I feel sad every time I saw it and it bugs me a lot. Touch paint paint doesn't make it look smooth also, maybe I'll get a new bumper until my current one is totally f*ck up..
If i want to get clear bra, i need to repaint everything again and pay for clear bra..way too expensive.. |
