Give a us a picture. You can tell its the 3 stage when it has two boxes on the right side of the manifold when bolted to the motor and facing the engine bay.

If it only has 1 actuator, then its not 3 stage IM.
You need 2 actuators to make 3 different air flow routes. That's why it's called 3 stage

Hope this helps, these are pics of the 3 stage intake off my 330i when I replaced the DISA actuators:

And then with the DISA actuators fitted:

And the shiny new DISA actuators!

How difficult was that to get off? I always have a hard time getting the junction box off the intake.

Well, it's now a few years since I did this DIY, but I struggled terribly from not knowing a few handy tricks. You need to commit to loosening the manifold in order to gain some extra space to get to that junction box as well as the bracket that holds the clams for the pipe and hose near the firewall - those plastic clips are very stubborn, the one in particular, I simply could not get it to open and release the pipe. And the same goes for the cables going to that junction box. The easiest is to just remove them from the manifold so that you can gain more access and get everything out.
