Battery Registration

Hey fam,

about to get a new battery installed for a good deal, but the install does not include registration.

Does anyone know where the best place is to register the battery? Located in Norwalk, CT.

Thanks!

Most likely shops will charge you about $150 or so I have heard..

Another alternative is "bmwhat" app on iOS & android. It's $50 app that can code your car as well as register the battery for additional $10 to any specs.

I have it works well.

I ordered their device from amazon since you know...free 2 day shipping haha. All you need really is a OBD bluetooth tool to connect to the app for the registration. App is about 60 plus 11 for the registration add on.

Do you use an Android or an iPhone? I have both the bluetooth adapter for Android and the WiFi adapter for the iPhone. You're free to test it out sometime this week and I also have the software on my iPhone.

question..I need a battery registration and looking to do it myself.

I have an Android phone so do i buy this BAFX and buy BMWhat app? I've read I have to pay $10 extra for battery coding. where do i find this addition to the app?

UPDATE:

just found out BMWhat app is now $60 and looks like it has Battery Registration coding included now.

Still trying to find out what adaptor to buy now.

The android adapter I mentioned has worked great for me for a three years now.

Update: Got a new battery to replace the old BMW one. When I took out the BMW battery, I found out that it was not AGM!?....so I replaced it with a normal wet battery (same specs).

I called my local Indy and asked if they had a reg tool out of curiosity...they did, but told me that only AGM batteries need to be registered.

Best $140 i've ever spent on the car (new battery and install)

Thanks for the help everyone...still purchasing the app though for the other benefits.

Can you post what exact battery you bought, and where?
I thought all batteries have to be registered...

Can't share the exact shop name for the battery, but it is in Norwalk, CT. I got the family friend discount, and might not get it again by sharing that.

Also if you search the forums, there is literally no ONE answer on the subject when it comes to registration.

When I called the Indy, the guy on the phone said without hesitation only AGM needs reg.

AGM would need coding to tell the car its has a different change algorithm. However you still need to tell the car you changed the battery for a new one of similar spec. So it can reset the timeline and start charging the new battery fully.
