Sparta Evolution BBK Review
Last year, I started to transition from doing shows and started getting into auto crossing and road courses events. I'm the type of guy get pretty serious in all he do, so I've started to overhaul my car. Been narrowing down my search for a BBK. My man focuses are reliability and performance since I'm upgrading turbos. After digging around, one company stood out the most, Sparta Evolution. Here are some key factors that caught my attention.
- Their Triton Calipers are forged from aluminum to be lightweight and strong. Plus, they are also a 2-piece design caliper. - They utilize a standard FMSI pad shape so I have a really good pad selection. - The only big brake caliper to utilize all ARP hardware in assembly. This make them more durable and resistance to deflection. - Anodized instead of being powder coated or painted to help dissipate heat from the caliper body. - Utilized quick release pins to assist with brake pad change times. They are also coated in nickel! - Staggered/ correct sized vented pistons. I used BBK install by Long Tran found HERE for installation. It's a pretty easy process for the DIYers out there. I had an issue with trimming the rear dust shields. I didn't have much success with a dremel, so I went to Lowe's to buy a tin snip. Made the job a lot easier. The front bolted right up with no modifications needed. Here's a few pictures to compare the calipers and rotors. Front Calipers Rear Calipers Rotor thickness Conclusion: FWIW, the upgrade kit I had did perform great on street and auto crossing. On road courses where you reach higher speeds, harder breaking, higher temps and brake fading, I just don't see it holding up when I upgrade my turbos so played it safe. Stopping distance has improved as expected. Haven't been on the track yet with these, but will make a review in the tracking section after I do. Overall, I'm more than satisfied with this kit and with I would have got it sooner. The build quality is mind blowing. I want to thank John, Tom, and Duck at Sparta Evolution for their great customer service, assistance, and knowledge . My phone battery was low, so hear are a few crappy shots. Update: Bought the 3 out today and left the house early to play around on a near by empty road. First time really getting on the brakes and I have to say I'm pretty impress with the stopping distance of the supplied street pads. This made me curious enough to place an order for Sparta track pads pretty soon. Also, my track wheels came in yesterday!

Picking fly-sh*t out of rice...
Pretty impressive if the kit you installed improved the coefficient of friction of the TIRES.

Lol, I've been Hacked ! Let me rephrase that, I'm able to brake harder (and also constantly) now as anticipated.

BBK doesn't improve braking distance during a panic stop where brakes are fully applied... That has to do with tire coefficient as Hack said.
However, BBK improves brake feel and might require less pedal travel to acquire the same decelerating g-force comparing to the stock system in most cases, due to larger pad-rotor contact area and higher brake torque from the larger rotor diameter. So that is why a lot of people perceive such improvement as a reduction in braking distance. Anyway, nice kit! Wish I have the cash for a set...lol Those decals have to go though...

The decals, I know. Some would love it, some would hate it . Make for good conversation, gain attention at shows and track events, and this car is not daily driven.

Better brakes that can modulate more effectively at the limits of lockup/abs threshold will stop faster(providing there is an improvement to be made... and with oem e90 brake systems there is room for improvement).

Pretty good. Love the caliper design. Brake maintenance (flush and pad swap) is a breeze. Overall, this is definitely a solid kit.
Autox- performs like a champ, no issues what so ever. Road course- holds up good depending on the track and how many sessions. Initial bite and performance is surprising for their street pads. They can hold up if you go to the track for fun here and there, but I recommend you go with your favorite track pads if you want best performance and track often or you will feel when the street pads are getting too hot. From Atlanta but live in Vegas now.
