oil level fluctuations after topping up

On a long trip oil level indicated lowest bar. To add 1 quart.
I add half quart. I day later it indicates oil at top bar.

Would a long drive affect how much oil the sensor picks up?

The oil expands as it gets hot and will increase the oil read level.

Bad sensor or car was not fully warmed up when second reading was taken, esp if car has an oil cooler and t-stat had not opened yet.
