Attn: meth heads
Just moved down to Texas and cannot find -20 washer fluid anymore. What are you southern guys using instead? I found 0 degree stuff which the MSDS says is 20% methanol compared to the 33-35% of -20. Currently trying to find a source for pure methanol in the Austin area but have yet to find a shop selling it.
I asked the guy at Advance about -20 and he said it's banned in the state due to VOCs. Hopefully he's wrong, but considering how Austin is basically a spin-off of soviet california I would not be surprised.

Stevers, Houston is nothing like Austin but I've only seen 0F stuff here too. If it's available in Texas, it would be found in Houston. I'll check with some contacts and let you know. Royal Purple raceway is down here. Maybe it can be purchased there.

I found a place that sells it pure by calling race shops in the area and asking around if they sell or know who sells methanol. After following a couple leads I got ahold of a place that retails racing fuel. In Austin with COTA nearby you must have a couple shops in town that stock race fuel, might have to kick a few tires to find them

Found a shop today that has it for $6/gal. Gonna give them a shot and mix some 40% go juice. I was going through about 10 gallons of washer fluid each month before due to all my driving, but now it's just a daily commute so i'll hopefully be down to 5-ish.

What size jet/psi are you using to go through that much methanol? |

Typically I will go through a full 2.5gal tank per full tank of fuel.

Thing, changing my single 625 to come on at about the same 23psi, and add a smaller nossel running at similar psi, I think the 23psi would be fine with no quench if I can figure out a way to have it come on above 3500 or so rpm. AEM makes a piggie back that can help do this. |

Are you guys not running progressive injection? I don't use anywhere near the meth you do, using an 800mL nozzle, but my controller is progressive. You guys must be flat out everywhere you go!

15 psi boost happens pretty often. At 40%, 175 cc is only worth about 8Hp, from a fueling perspective. Just over 100cc of the total is H20. At moderate speeds and accelerations, that much H20 is roughly twice the amount of water injested on a 90% humidity day, in warm weather - not that much. But I'll bet it is enough to keep parts nice and clean.
Progressive H2O/meth injection is a relative term. Progressive volume addition, at a fix H2O/meth ratio, is a often a very compromised situation. The value of methanol as a supplemental fuel and/or evaporant for cooling does not follow the need for H20 as an evaporant for cooling and/or quenchant to keep exhaust temps down. Not saying the progressive volume addition isn't a good thing, however, a volume progressive system with 1 large nozzle can perform worse than a stepped system with multiple smaller nozzles, especially if the goal is evaporative cooling. |

Goodness ... think I've been going through ~2-3 gallons a year. I've got a 5 gallon container of methanol from last year I've been mixing with that isn't even half gone.
