Small jolt after acceleration and removing foot from pedal

Hey All,

Have an 09 335Xi MT with about 75k -- in the process of cleaning up my front end suspension, but have been noticing a small jolt forward in the car when i step on the gas to anywhere around and before 3k then abruptly remove my foot from the gas pedal. originally i thought it was the suspension but im not sure that would be the case. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Could it be a fuel pump cutoff? Engine mount? something in the tranny (getting a fluid change soon)?

kind of bizarre and maybe im just paranoid as of late about small things with the car.

thanks in advance

The car makes torque down low, the front end will usually have upward movement when you peg the gas at low rpms.

Mine does the same thing. I'm hoping worn mounts and suspension bushings are the culprit. I think the clutch is definitely partially responsible but exacerbated by 115k bushings and mounts. Try doing it without the clutch... On and off the gas.....and see if you get a jolt or if its only when using the clutch.

yup it is only when the car is in gear. youve got a couple more miles than I, but i was thinking mounts and bushings

when you let off on a pull your tensioner spring has probably weakened and jolts back and could be also damaging alternator clutch / pulley as well. i replaced belt tensioner / belt and idler pulleys and no more jolt but i am going to replace alternator clutch pulley soon too. The spring will also make a knocking noise that will be audible from infront of the radiator outside the car plus you can visually see the belt bouncing at idle.

If your clutch pulley is damaged it will not properly charge the battery. While your down there check all bearings on other pulleys and lube them.

All the tensioners start to go around 80k it seems or at least start weakening. Do the belt while your down there and check the pulleys to see if the bouncing belt chewed up the edges of the idler pulleys.

Garage List
Mine does the same thing. 2008 335i coupe RWD, just about to hit 75k.

I've noticed that it is most prominent in the low gears and fades off significantly from 3rd gear and up. Does yours do the same thing?

I'm curious to see what the solution is if/when you find it.

I wonder if it could be because of either tranny mount, motor mount, or control arm bushings ?
