DSC Malfunction - help!
Hi all,
I have ran into a DSC malfunction, and after lots of searching, I need some guidance from those who have experienced this. 2008 335i 6MT with iDrive. Car sat for about a week while I was changing out the downpipes and adjusting the rear wastegate. All went back together and ran great. On day 2, a few minutes after driving the car, I got the DSC malfunction, along with the orange "brake" light and the DSC light on solid, on the dash. I read the codes with the BT tool, which indicated the 5E46 Steering Sensor error, along with two wheel speed sensor errors, and a low battery voltage error. I reset these, and proceeded to drive the car further over a few days. The DSC malfunction came back immediately. Now, the only code I get is the 5E46 error: 5E46 DSC: Steering-angle sensor: plausibility Error will cause a warning light Error is currently present Test conditions have been completed I went through the .02 cent cleaning (not soldering) procedure; upon inspection, everything inside the sensor was sparkling clean. No difference after reassembly. The only reason I am posting is because despite the steering angle sensor error, the turn signal cancellation still works perfectly, which makes me think that the sensor is still reading. So a recap: 5E46 error code, DSC and DBC malfunction, hill assist not working, yellow/orange "brake" light on dash, solid DSC light on dash, but the turn signals cancel perfectly. I downloaded DIS v57 and INPA, but havn't used them yet. Any guidance would be great on the next troubleshooting steps. |

This issues sucks balls. There's so many possible causes ranging from dying battery, dirty sensor, very expensive hydro unit, etc. I'm dealing with this now and just replaced my battery, going for to reset using the BT cable and hope for the best.

I had this light come on once a year an a half ago. I was told to restart the car, and turn the wheel lock to lock, and the issue never came up again. Bmw tech neighbor said it could be bc my battery was swapped without coding, or any number of things, and suggested turning wheel lock to lock can recalibrate the sensor.

FYI, the problem seemed to go away...for now.
I read somewhere here that the BT tool can reset the SAS. I tried it the other day. It seemed to do nothing...in fact, I don't even think I did the reset correctly, as the BT interface required me to also reset the tire pressure sensor, which I tried. Anyways, the procedures I went through didn't make a difference until today..a few days of driving later. So we will see how that goes. I even purchased the DIS/INPA DVD and cable suite to try and reset the sensor, which has yet to arrive, as I had also read that you can reset the sensor using that tool. Keeping my fingers crossed! Although I can do without the DSC and headlight tricks, I do enjoy the cruise control. |
