VRSF 5" stepped intercooler lower charge pipe upgrade

Hello guys

I'm about to purchase a 5" stepped intercooler from VRSF for my 08. VRSF website says the lower charge pipe upgrade is not required but recommended for pre 2009 models. For those of you with a pre-09' who have bought the same intercooler, would you recommend I get it? If yes, why?

Thanks

you will replace a plastic piece with a metal piece. No reason not to.

If the plastic piece is not know for failure (unlike the upper charge pipe), then I don't see why it is a good idea to replace it

my buddy runs his stock plastic cold side up pipe with no issues. it really is up to you whether you want to swap it out for a metal one or retain the factory plastic one.

For $30 it is a no brainer
You are upgrading your FMIC and soon the charge pipe, why leave a cheap plastic OE elbow in between the 2 ?

I already have an ER charge pipe. I just feel like if it's unnecessary, that's $30 better spent somewhere else. To each his own I guess.

I doubt you will need to change the OE elbow anytime soon.

Recently got my 5" stepped with chargepipe upgrade. Bought it from Jeff@TopGearSolutions gave the best deal and shipped promptly!
Haven't gotten the chance to install it yet. Do I have to modify the passenger side coupler//piping to fit the intercooler? I know I can just swap out the driver side since i got the charge pipe upgrade

I think the logic is that the plastic CP is subject to failure so other critical plastic parts may also be subject to failure. VRSF wouldn't offer the part if there wasn't demand.

If you feel it is unnecessary, then why did you ask?

Because I wanted to know the reason why it was recommended to upgrade since I couldn't find an answer anywhere. based on the answers above, it seems to me the upgrade is more for aesthetics rather than functionality... I yet have to see a failure of the lower charge pipe so I don't think I'll buy the upgrade.

Definitely worth it. You're going from a metal cp (assuming you upgraded that) to plastic back to metal? I would rather have metal all the way through. Plus it makes the install a bit easier I thought when I did my 7" vrsf with the upgrade.

While the lower chargepipe isn't likely to explode like the upper chargepipe, the metal rings inside the plastic chargepipe to fatigue and bend when used with tbolt clamps. The lower chargepipe is also restrictive (2.3" ID) with quite a few unnecessary bends and neck downs the restrict flow.

It's an upgrade for the Pre 09 because the stock pipe is a bit of a restriction and it also makes it easier to install when you get the lower cp upgrade. As Tiago also mentioned the stock pipe is plastic and not that strong so when you bolt down your t bolt clamp you risk braking the stock CP. I would get the upgrade if I had a pre 09.

It's a plug and play. Nothing to modify. Thanks for your support!

We all sell it for same price, including combo deals, just some food for thought.
