Mum REFUSES To Break Into Expensive BMW To Save Toddler Son From Heat

A mum has sparked outrage after she refused to allow firefighters to break into her car to save her toddler son from the heat because the vehicle was too expensive to damage.

The unnamed mother was unable to open the door of her BMW when it accidentally locked itself.

Her three-year-old son was trapped inside and was suffering in the heat as no windows were open.

Firefighters who arrived at the scene in Yiwu city, China, were about to break the glass to rescue the boy - but his mum told them she wanted to wait for a locksmith instead so the car would not be damaged.

Stunned onlookers looked on in horror as the toddler cried inside the vehicle as the oxygen levels rapidly went down.

Despite the mother’s desire to wait, firefighters eventually took matters into their own hands when the boy started to faint and they smashed the glass to rescue him.

One of the firefighters was quoted as saying: “It’s very dangerous to leave children inside cars, especially in such heat.

“It can threaten a child’s life in a very short time.”

The mother was blasted on social media, with one person writing: "The mother shouldn’t have left her kid in the car in the first place. Even if the car did accidentally lock itself.

“What happens if someone breaks the window and abducts the kid?”

Another added: “It looks like the car is her real son.”

Some Chinese people (im chinese myself) values cars solely on how much money they cost because that shows their status. The mother probably spent a lot time saving and was left with little money to maintain the car and the repairs. And the insurance companies are bitches when it comes to claims. Shes probably one of those people that sees money as first priority than everything else. Poor child was born to a society where people's lives means shit compared to money

When you shatter the safety glass you can get the pieces down in the door and those are hard to remove. If she is still fertile she can always have another kid.

If I was there I would've broken that shit without hesitation. I've been in closed summer car and it gets so hot so fast you can't believe it. It was only 5 minutes and I probably sweated a literal gallon.

In China I am not surprised by this (I'm Chinese myself too). They are extremely materialistic and this is nothing compared to what I have seen there.

crazy, i wouldn't leave a child in a car regardless, but even when i pull up to a gas station with my dog, i make sure the ac is on and the windows are down, even my the 1 minute I'm inside

What really happened? Did she lock herself out? Did the kid get to fob and lock it?

Would not be a lawsuit in the US because the firefighters would have broken the window and ignored the mom.

That kid is going to need therapy.

Do Chinese sold/delivered BMWs not come with BMW Assist? I work in the PRC a lot, but I don't know if they do or don't. I've never been in a BMW in the PRC, nor have I purchased one there.

I'd bet she had a working cell phone, so that couldn't have been why she didn't call them to have them unlock the car.

That said, BMW Assist, comfort access or whatever, I am shocked that the woman's priority was the car and not her child.

This is the second story I've come across in a week that's led me to think there really are parents out there who truly are just too stupid to have children. I feel sorry for the kids, really I do....but the social Darwinist in me cannot help but think that perhaps the parents' genes should not be passed on.

My dog locked my kid in once ( stepped on the key). I had lost my other key a week earlier, the kid was too small to get out of her seat and help me out. It was +10C outside (50 hamburgers) the kid was warm, I still didn't want to wait for her to panic before doing something.

I broke a window opened the car, drove to a shop to get a new one. After that I've kept all cars keys on my body at all times, and I have currently three in each set. (as in I have Audis and Peter's key always with me, two sets at home)

I think the mom in question was too afraid of the hubby to act. No mother would protect just a BMW.

Seriously... It's people like this that make me ashamed I even have Chinese heritage and have become an Uncle Ruckus of sorts about China, so that's why I'm glad my grandparents emigrated to Taiwan. I'll fucking nuke my house and spend 2 years living in a cardboard box if it meant saving my kid!

Heck, ever since I read that our cars are almost impossible to break into, I've been extremely paranoid about not locking my keys in the car (wish I had comfort access as a safety net), children or not, but to simply go cheap on the price of a new window pane is simply ridiculous! Also, even though China dug their own grave with a one child per household policy, I sincerely support it if Family Planning outlaws this chick's breeding, forces her to have a hysterectomy and somehow forbids that kid from breeding as well if he survives.

At my Squad, we would have broken the window without hesitation. In regards to a lawsuit, none of us would have to worry. My station has an attorney on retainer in case of stupid lawsuits like what you're saying. In addition, much of what we do is covered by the Good Samaritan Laws. Since we are deemed as professionals, we are expected to conduct ourselves in what is reasonable in what our job duties entail which is rendering assistance and public safety. In this situation, there were specific endangering factors which would necessitate action on our part. In contrast, had the any EMS professional not acted in a timely manner and a kid had suffered injury or death, then that would be grounds for a lawsuit which the Good Samaritan Law would probably not provide any protection. This inaction would probably fall under either negligence or gross negligence.

I was biting my tongue , but your are right here. In the US, our public services (police/fire department) have a certain legal level of protection. In these circumstances, I would hope ANYONE, regardless their job, civic, military, etc... would jump in and do whats right. Heck I would break a window and even offer to pay for it myself. The child is the victim, and for the negligence....

Same here. I wouldn't wait if the weather was hot and the child was panicking.
