Testing wastegates
I am having boost issues and have replaced vacuum lines. Now using a gauge to test solenoids and wastgates. At idle I have 15" Hg from the line actuator but dont have a way of closing the wastegates at idle. You can do this with JB4 which I dont have. Any suggestions on how to do this? Just drive with gauge in my hand with window open?

Use a vacuum pump to apply the vacuum.

If you want to close the waste gates at idle completely, bypass the solenoids, and apply the vacuum from the canisters straight onto the tubes coming from the WG actuators.
The vacuumpump should be pulling something like 27 in hg. grtz |

I used my Mityvac and vacuumed to 20" Hg. I cant hear the wastegates opening/closing. I think its holding pressure but cant be sure as there is a slow leak in the mityvac. Over 4 mins it leaked down to 15" Hg which im pretty sure is through the mityvac.

Ok will try that. The vacuum line coming from the vac cans go to the boost solenoids so assume you mean after the solenoids for front and rear?

Unplug the "out" ports labeled on the solenoids (these are going to the Wg actuators) and put the tubes froming the canisters to the T connectors you just unplugged
![]() As you apply vacuum, you should see the rear WG close. |

They may be working again, but i think isopropyl alcohol will dry out your rubber diagrams in the oem diverter valves. So they will start leaking again...
