HEXON RR550 - Turbo Review by WedgePerformance

Well, the hair dryers have been on the car now for just over 2000 miles. Had a few bugs with my car to work out, but things are coming together nicely for Shift Sector Oregon.

The Car....

'07 E92 335i Sport AT

The Mods...

HEXON RR550's - TFT Inlets - MOTIV Port Injection - Fuel-IT Stage III LPFPs - VAC built Quaife LSD - AMS FMIC - MHD WedgePerformance tune by Wedge (me) with MAXBoost...

HEXON Autowerks

Well, you're probably wondering why I went with HEXON over the other stock frame player... Well, other than the fact that HEXON is the new kid on the block, we have seen really good results tuning them on other cars... Guess it was just time to see what they were all about.

The Turbos...

The RR550 Hybrid Turbo's are custom built by HEXON AUTOWERKS in their own shop. Unlike other vendors who peace together turbos and farm out machine work to shops with quality control issues, HEXON takes matters in their own hands with a full machine shop and a few German made DMU 5 axis CNC mills. (very cool)

My opinion... the HEXON turbos are right in line with the current stage 2 offerings. Are they better? Only time will tell...

One thing I like most about HEXON, quality workmanship is their #1 priority, not making claims online. So far, HEXON exceeds my expectations.

What's Next?

Shift S3ctor Oregon is tomorrow. Look forward to some race videos.

DYNOJET Note: Dyno shop only had one small fan and I'm not running meth. IAT's shot up and dropped my timing 4 deg from 5000 rpm. That's why you'll notice power goes flat at 600 whp. I don't want to make any claims, but there is power on the table.

This is why TFT is the best...

Great post!

Hoping to see someone out there find out what these can do on 93 octane. Right now it looks like a single turbo is the best option for those not willing to go E85.

I think that you will see somewhere between 475 and 500 whp on 93 if you are running inlets.

Looking for a turbo option for my AWD/AT to add inlets to my FBO, Stage 2 LPFP and Custom Wedge E60 map........These may take the cake!

Cant afford breaking drivetrain parts. I wanna push the car but not to the limit and start snapping Axles.

Wedge you guys endorse Hexon?

Sounds great, looks great, and thanks for the video! You will have to post a dyno video when you get one!

Is that a port injection kit on the car? Sorry for the newb question.

Edit: Sorry, I see it in the mod list on the first post.

Yes we 100% endorse Hexon.....other than Hexon's outstanding support, and satisfying turbo performance per affordability, we feel much more comfortable recommending a company that does their own in house stuff rather than having to send it off to the unknown

Whats your estimate in case of proper cooling, and curve after 6700rpm?

I think many of us would be ecstatic if we could get 500whp on pump. Many of us have no need for much more power than that on our DD's, and the convenience of only needing 93oct would be a huge relief.

I agree, except I'll add this:

I'm much more interested to see what sort of post-5500RPM power these make on 93 octane (FBO + inlets). To me, making +450rwhp consistently beyond 5500RPM is much more valuable than a bell curve dyno hitting a glory number of peak 500rwhp.

I'm not trying to demote the turbos, but hexon in the past had their turbos manufactured in Taiwan?

Is this still the case???

Last edited by DR-JEKL; 08-23-2015 at 01:02 AM.. Reason: Hexon are based in Taiwan, hence why they're made in Taiwan
