Questions about 335d
Hey fellas, so I just put enjoyably 1k kms on the car since I bought it and have some questions about it:
1) Is there a way to check oil/coolant temperature? never owned a car w/o at least a coolant temp gauge. It would be beneficial to know what's going with engine temp as I am planning to block the EGR cooler 2) I am pretty sure that I have cornering lights, but they don't seem to work, no error codes either. Any ideas whats going on? 3) Finally, how is your automatic transmission behaving? We always had manuals and this is our first auto. It seems that sometimes its not sure what gear to pick and jerks as a result, never noticed this in the rental cars, however, did notice this in DSG transmission in the TDI when took her for a test drive and because of this bought the manual once again. Thank you!!! |

As far as I know the only way to check the temps you've mentioned is via app/software or the hidden menu (Google or YouTube search).
If you are referring to adaptive lights, turn the lights switch knob to the left rather than the right. A day or so after buying the car I was coming to red light and I pressed the brake thinking it was the clutch pedal I'd been using for the last decade and came to a hilarious screeching halt. I know this doesn't answer your question at all but I thought it was funny... |

I just drive in manual mode and pick my own gears since the transmission can't seem to pick the correct gears.
I really wish BMW brought over a manual version. All my previous cars have been manual until this diesel. |

No 335d anywhere in the world ever had a manual. BMW cannot "bring one over", as they don't exist.

I was more referring to they could have made one and brought it over as other diesel model has a manual gearbox. To say it made too much torque and use that as an excuse is kind of a cop out but probably just them not wanting to have to do any clutch replacement under warranty. |

1) via app on your phone or tablet. (Torque or Carly)
2) as mentioned, turn the knob left (counterclockwise) as you use your turn signal or turn the steering wheel the lights will come on. 3) the tranny is really bad, especially from second to third gear there is a jerk and/or clunk if done under soft acceleration it will change gears in rough manner around 20 mph. if you step on it it should be very smooth barely perceptible. In DS or manual it's the same thing. The harder you rev it the smoother it gets. |

Thank you all for your input! Still not sure why the cornering lights don't work, I do have the lights knob turned all the way to the left in Auto position. With the transmission manual mode, I'm not too savvy with the paddle shifters, but was pleasantly surprised this morning that you can shift manually via the shifter as well, my hand is hoovering there anyway after driving sticks for so long.

Those lights should come on in two different instances:
1) turn lights activated 2) steering wheel Park the car with the engine on, turn the steering wheel to either side, get out of the car and see if the cornering light (the middle set) is on (only one of them, depending on the direction you take). They are not very intense and are easily ignored since they don't really brighten up the road. |

You can't check the cornering lights when the car sits in place. You gotta drive above a certain speed. What exactly does not work? The headlight beam that follows the road or the aditional light that comes on for iluminating the inner sector of the corner?
Does the green LED next to the switch knob flash (indicating a fault)?

when stationary light will only move to right side
when driving - light will be move to the left or right depending on steering wheel position another way to check if you have cornering lights is to read text on xenon shroud ring there should be line "BMW Dynamic Xenon"
