New D owner

Hello Everyone i am the proud owner of a new well technically new but used 335d.

Just purchased the car last week, she a 2009 with 116k miles pretty much all options except sport and m

Im super stolked on the car and love the torque and feel specially coming from my w210 e300td Mercedes.

Was wondering if there is any preventative stuff i should do at 116k miles? also if i plan to have the car flashed does it matter that i have 116k on the engine? is there any possible way to check for cbu or the other known issues of this car? Ive done some research but brand new to bmw and these forums so any advice is greatly appreciated.

cheers and heres a pic of the car and my old 300td in the back

Bienvenue, since your car is the ORIGINAL start off I strongly suggest you go to the dealer FIRST to see what has been done on the car then from there start looking a the MANY issues concerning our cars. Since you live in Cali your screwed on emission I suggest you speak to west end boys how ther doing, Hooper, Chief Orman and so on they have their cars rigged a la Cali. And btw don't feel deterred this and exceptional car w/o the emission bs and enjoy the ride

Welcome. Don't see to many red ones...looks great with those blacked out rims! For preventative stuff, do you have the maintenance records? I'd be thinking at least the basics for sure with 116k miles if you don't. Examples: transmission, brake, and coolant fluids, as well as fuel filter. Otherwise, sounds like you've done a little homework and are aware of the most problematic issues such as CBU and the urea system.

The previous owner did all maintenance through bmw dealer, Im doing oil change this weekend. Also is the fuel filter something I can do myself ? or dealer only?

Not sure how mechanically inclined you are. Unbolting your throttle body and EGR valve to look into intake inlet might give you a feel as to where you are with CBU.

If you do this, be very careful with those little screws that mount these two parts. I use a combination of a hex wrench and a "T" handle of same size. I believe they both are 5 mm. You will need to remove the charge pipe (output side of intercooler).

Yozh sent me a photo of his intake throat and with his mileage, it would appear he is in good shape. Doing this DOESN"T guarantee that you don't have it (CBU) though. It is more of if you see it real bad here (intake throat), you know its bad downstream too. Only real way to check is pulling the intake and use boroscope to look at intake valves for crud on them. Many threads here about walnut blasting if you have a mess. Not to worry, it can be cleaned.

Fuel filter has been done by a few here but you need to learn how to bleed air out of the system after installing and BEFORE starting up. One guy here activated the lifting pump and blew about a gallon of diesel through new filter into bucket to ensure he hadn't introduced contaminant into fuel system. Dealer did my fuel filter in January of 2014 so I'm not quite due another yet. I haven't tried on my own yet.

That sounds out of of level of wrenching so guess I will just drive it till I feel hesitation which is a sign of cbu correct?

Okay, this may be less daunting then.

Disconnect the charge pipe from the throttle body. Rotate the throttle body's butterfly where you can see in. Use a flashlight and you will see the EGR's throat. It's likely to be nasty which is normal for an unblocked (stock) system. If you can get a hold of a boroscope, you could look at your intake's inlet by putting probe up through throttle body and EGR.

Getting those records would be good as your intake and head's inlet ports might have been cleaned. Hope so. Best of luck.
