Silencer options for a Cobb Catback?

I love the sound of my recently installed Cobb, but there's a bit of a drone on the highway, and some days, I really just don't feel like hearing loud exhausts (*cough*hangover*cough*)

I remember back in my munchkin-sized days, I have a 5Zigen exhaust on my Civic Si, and it came with a slip-in silencer device that dramatically lowered the noise levels.

Can anyone suggest a solution that doesn't involve cut'n'weld? I may look at a change of the whole setup later on, but I'm looking for a more immediate solution..

sounds like you should have kept a stock exhaust on there. I have the cobb with catless dp's and never find it to be too loud or droning, so if you're that sensitive to it, time for stock. those slip in silencers are a terrible idea, especially for a turbocharged car.

Why so? Obviously they restrict airflow, but my goal is to reduce volume, and that requires restricting airflow. Won't be worse than stock, I would think.

In the long run, I'd like to find an iPE system, but they're pricey and I don't really know if I can justify the cost. I have another project that's taking priority. I would hate to go back to stock if a silencer - or something similar - will work.

restricting volume doesn't mean restricting flow. You can add an additional muffler or resonator if you're so inclined, without sticking a cork in the tail pipe.

Put a 50 or 100 cell high flow cat in it. It wont restrict flow all that much, and it will kill some of the sound.

Funny I've been rebuilding my car, and got hooked up with a Cobb exhaust (thanks Jake@motiv) and i purchased a hi Flo cat just in case

I still miss my Bmw PE setup

Love the sounds when I'm romping, but there's some pretty heavy drone when I'm putzing around town at 2k RPM. I can live with it, but it kinda sucks on road trips, and I do lots of 150-200 mile trips.

I'll do that. Sounds like an inexpensive solution and I don't mind getting rid of the smell somewhat. My downpipes have cats, but replacing the lack of main cat probably isn't a bad idea.
