Hey guys, I detail my car myself as I'm sure a lot of you do.

I use a 6" da buffer with mezerna polishes and usually seal with dodo juice wax. I'm looking into using a sealant as they offer longer lasting protection and have my eye on klasse high gloss sealant.

Out of curiosity what do you guys recommend and what are you guys using? I want a sealant that gives a nice shine and preferably something that lasts for 6-12 months.

I'm a fan of Menzerna products too and use their Power Lock Polymer Sealant. Very happy with the way it performs and it has good long term protection > https://www.carcareproducts.com.au/p...olymer_sealant. I top this with dodo juice wax.

I'm very interested in moving to a sealant instead of using a wax that only lasts 2 months. With the Menzerna Power Lock Polymer Sealant, it says its 250mls, how quickly do you consume that product? Like if I applied it once on the whole car is the whole bottle gone? Need to pay shipping as well, anyone in Melb want to order some stuff and split the shipping?

I've bought from car care products before, got their DAS6 orbital buffer kit, has already paid for itself with the stuff I have been able to do with it!

I found the 5" pad to be a bit big for some jobs. If you put a 3" pad on the machine it will vibrate like crazy so I machined up a new steel counterweight for it to be able to be used with a 3" pad.

You really don't need much at all - one bottle should do at least 3 applications and I use it with my DAS6 too which is a bonus!

What pads are you guys using? My mint pads that came with the kit are on their way out. Looking at the lake country pads.

Another sealant thats supposed to be really good is 3d hd sealant. Supposed to be a hybrid of a sealant and a wax so you get the added protectiin with the depth and wet look that wax provides.

I just applied Gyeon Quartz Q2 PRIME. It needs a 4hr drying period between applying the PRIME and the hardener but once that is done it is glossy and silky smooth. Can't say much about the longevity yet, but online reviews (if you can trust them) say 12 months between applications.

Pads: I used the Lake Country 5.5inch ones that came with my Concours 921 kit from Waxit. I shredded the orange pad by working it too hard, not cleaning it enough and not resting it enough to cool it down between panels.

I use Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze in conjunction with Klasse AIO (all in one). Stuff ain't cheap but is the tits. Highly recommended.

Not me, I wash it with somecheapo $7 turtlewax wash & wax once in a blue moon, otherwise I just let the rain do the work.

For sealant I've been using AutoGlym Extra Gloss Protection, very easy to use and a little goes a long way.

After the sealant cures I top it with a wax.
I was using Swissvax Waxes before but now I'm trying out Chem Guys' Pete's 53 WIWO wax (wipe on wipe off, no hazing time required).

I use Lake Country CCS pads with Menzerna polishes on either my rotary or RO buffer.

Why not go for opti coat?

gf just bought me Polish Angel Master Sealant for xmas. Reading good things about it (not the best thing out there, but affordable and easy to apply). Supposed to last around 12 months. And needs a prep agent. I don't trust myself with power tools on the paint so I only do things by hand.

Theres 2 things here, coatings and sealants. A coating bonds to the paint and is designed to last 12+ months. They differ in chemistry but that's the summary. They're expensive and can be tricky to apply. There's also sealants. Sealants are a sacrificial layer that bonds to the paint or coating and is designed to be easy to apply but not last as long. They're also cheaper.

What you want to do it a full wash, clay and paint correction to remove swirls, oxidisation, water marks etc. Then you apply your coating. When that's done, you apply your sealant. Wash your car like normal every week/fortnight and reapply the sealant. This will keep your coating lasting longer and protect the paint underneath. Wouldn't waste my time with waxes these days technology has moved on.

My opinion, if you are going to use a coating though consider having done (or doing yourself) a paint correction. Otherwise you're locking in all those swirls and marks under $170+ of coating for 12 months plus.
