Clicking noises from Engine bay: UPDATED!! Soundclip added

I know the N54 engine can make some noises and differs from car to car, but i have had this annoying clicking noise come from my engine bay under low-rpm/low speed. Or if i am in neutral and give it a little rev up to around 3k, the "ticking" noise occurs.

My question is, have any of you guys experienced this same noise/what is causing it? I have a CAI and JB2HR and 2nd cats deleted, so im hesitant to take it to my dealer with those mods installed. However, it has been occuring for awhile, even before my CAI or tune.

Ill try to take a soundclip of the noise later to day.

i believe all our cars make a ticking noise at IDLE because of the fuel injectors.
but i never hear them when i rev the motor.

I hear the ticking noise when the car is warming up, but it is not as apparent after its warm...I think I read the symptoms that you have when you rev it and it ticks like a card in the spokes of a bicycle is wastegates...Check one of the threads on site...

I think of it this way:

If you hear clicking noises and you're not low on oil then you're fine.
It's normal.

Happens to me, too. No mods. Not low on oil. Noticed it for at least a couple months now (car is 9 months old / 12k on the clock). Could've been there since day one, just a little hard to recall perfectly.

The metal vibrating is most likely your clutch or aftermarket exhaust.

I have the same issue, even If i am going high speed... you can hardly hear it but is there. It wasn't like that on my old engine.

I let my SA know about it, he said is normal and that BMW is working on a fix. It really sucks that such expensive, nice and sexy looking car keeps making such noise. it is a turn off

Do you hear the noise at idle, cruising at steady RPM, engine accelleration or engine decelleration?

If it can only be heard during engine decelleration, then it may be a wastegate failure that seems to be happening to quite a few people.

Best way to test for this is to turn your car on, shut off the radio, open the windows, leave the car in park/neutral for 6AT/6MT respectively, and hit the gas.

Let it rev up to about 3000 RPM, then let the gas go, and listen. If you hear something akin to a baseball card in bicycle spokes with a tin-like note, then you may have a wastegate failure.

If you are hearing a muted ticking at idle, it could be the direct injection or some other normal noise.

Mine happens all the times: idle, accelerating, decelerating, high/low rpms, low/high speeds. I was thinking to record it, may as well do it later when i take my bro home.

edit: BTW, when at faster speed, the noise also increases its clicking speed.

Describes my situation. I know clutch chatter, and this is not it. Had a similar noise on my VW for ~6 years.

This is EXACTLY the noise/conditions mine is heard under...engine decelleration. So i guess i have a possible wastegate failure?? Is this something that should be fixed immediately?

I just walked up front and ask a SA, he told me that the clicking noise is fine and that bmw has a fix they are working on. What i was told is that there is a hole in the top of the cylinder head that allows oil to get through.. they are finding out that the hole is too large and the oil is running out. thus making the wonderful "tinking" noise that we have all grown to know and love... i look at my car think "damn thats hawt" hear the exhaust.. EVEN SEXIER.. walk to the front of the car while idling... and get very sad because i hear that stupid noise.... some of my information might be wrong due to the fact that i am not translating properly... hope this helps

is your ticking noise heard under idle or during decelleration... rev to 3k and listen for the noise?
