Hi everyone,

I basically need to know what this part is behind the oil filter, the rusty headed thing, it's on a 2011 320d if that helps?





My reason for asking is I have a noise on turnover that's basically like a squeak/scratching noise, wondering if it could be coming from this as its getting annoying now and hard to diagnose as its only there half a second on initial start up,

Squeek/scratching noise on turn over could just be a lazy starter motor.

That rusty thing is the top of the fuel pump.

Heard another e91 start up next to me yesterday making the exact same noise! He drove off before I could ask if he knew what it was though!

Is the starter at the back of the engine? Sounds like that fuel pump area to me

Actually, I think the starter motor is on the other side, below the turbo.

Thanks buddy, really bugging me!!

What confuses me is at 6am it starts up fine I don't know if it's because it's super cold or what, but after this it gets noisier again very confusing!
