Better Spool + Midrange Power? What Mods Are Left To Do?
Looking for some advice from those who are more knowledgeable than I..
I'm looking for FASTER spool/less lag for better drivability and a all around more enjoyable car. More power would be great as well. I don't do any track driving, it's my daily driver, but I do go out to the twisty mountain roads (bear mtn) as well as backroads VERY often. My current mods are: - Cobb Accessport w/PTF custom tune - BMS DCI - VRSF 7" FMIC - ER chargepipe w/Forge DV's - BMW performance exhaust - secondary cats removed - OEM downpipes - MFactory LSD (not a power adder - i know) My only conditions are: - i want to retain OEM downpipes (can't stand the sound of catless dp's) - 93 octane only (no meth or e85) - stick with stock turbo's So what other mods would you guys recommend for me? I'd love more power, but to be honest, I don't get to use all the power I have now, but I would prefer quicker spool and more power in the midrange. Any suggestions?

I think you're pretty much maxed out without delving into the world of E85 or methanol.

Would inlets help with better spool?

catless DP's give better spool....
Dunno why you don't like the sound, man up and enjoy the extra response that they provide is my advice |

If you are not running E85 then E85 allows you to be more aggressive with tuning. Inlets will allow you to hold more boost to redline prior to falling off.
If you have your old exhaust sale the PE exhaust go catless downpipes and keep the secondary cats, i do not recommend getting rid of the secondaries due to smell and its loud. If you stay with the OEM exhaust and go catless dps with the secondaries it still sounds like OEM and i guarantee it is definitely quieter than your PE exhaust setup you currently have and then you gain the added spool and response wanted.

You need better tuning. The tuning that has been done for PPK has less lag than a typical custom tune. In addition, in most cases the tuners do not even use the DME's spool mode, compromising the spool.
If you really like the sound of cats (how do they sound btw ) having cats further back is better. In the exhaust rather than the DPs. |

Post up some logs of your car. Should be able to see how fast you are building boost and maybe spot problems with the wastegate control.
Most tunes are just optimised for WOT runs starting above 3k, just maxing out the timing and boost in one specific area. The real focus should be getting the tune sorted for partial throttle in a more moderate rev band but that takes a lot of time. |

Thank you all for the replies, but I think some of you are not reading what I wrote..
I want quicker spool first and foremost, added midrange would be great. BUT the challenge is to do it WITHOUT the following: NO catless dp's NO 85 NO meth As for why I don't want the catless dp's, I don't want the increased sound and especially not the raspiness AT ALL. I've heard plenty of different combo's of cattless/catted dp's in person, and am not a fan. Like I said, i'm not after power as much as I am quicker spool. Right now my current exhaust setup is absolutely perfect. I won't change a thing about it. It's loud where I want it to be and quiet where I want it to be, and when you do hear it it's freakin beautiful sounding lol. It just sucks that dp's are the only way to go, to get quicker spool.

Sure he can try messing around with the tune, but if your turbos arent performing efficiently, you want to remove those restrictions. A tune isnt going to allow him to hold boost throughout the RPM range like DPs and Inlets would. He doesnt have to use meth and e85, but that will allow him to get just that much more power while keeping the timing corrections at a minimum. |

Unfortunately you are limiting yourself by not allowing further modification. Assuming your tune looks good, which it does, you really have no other choices but to enjoy the vehicle as is. Inlets might help a little but probably not enough to notice. This car spools pretty quickly, in fact real quick compared to most turbo vehicles. You probably have some room for adjustments in the tune, you should talk to PTF. |

Even if this is where I end up at, I'm fine with it. I love the car as is, but just wanted to see if there was anything more that I could do that I didn't think of. I'll talk to PTF as well and see if they can do anything for me on the spool. Thank you for the input
