New member - jb4 or custom tune help

Hi guys,

I just picked up a 2011 e93 n55 335i and am wanting a few mods. I have just installed an ER charge pipe with meth bung, have a BMS air intake ready to be installed and am trying to decide on a tune. All the workshops in Sydney Australia are telling me that a custom tune (ecu out job) is better than a piggy back jb4. One person told me that yes, both methods will yield same peak numbers but in the mid range, custom tune will produce approx 20more whp than jb4. Any truth to this?

A custom tune will cost roughly $600 more than the jb4, if it's better I'll pay it but just trying to determine if it's worth it. Whenever I search only the jb4 custom map comes up but nothing about custom tune vs jb4

Thanks in advance,
Aaron

Search Cobb protune vs JB4.

Both sides have pros and cons. It depends on what you want to achieve as well. Read up and you'll come up with most of your answers. I've had both and I like both methods.

Hi mate, the custom tune was recommended to me by one shop too. I ended up going with the jb4 as I can utilise map 5 which auto tunes to the mods you have. The issue with a custom tune to my understanding is that you need to retune if you alter mods so is more viable to have done once you have finished modifying the vehicle. Also if you want to use an e85 blend the jb4 and Cobb will allow this.

Thanks for the info guys. Done some research and yes the custom is better. But I'm at the beginning of modding my car so once I'm fbo I'll either go meth or custom tune. Until then jb4 will do

Cheers!
