2010 320D engine noise

Hi everyone, I picked up a 2010 320D M Sport from a BMW main dealer last week on the 23rd.

I love it so far but I've noticed a noise when inbetween 2-3k revs, much more noticeable in 2nd and 3rd. The only way I can describe it is a rattley noise..kind of like something is loose?

I've got it booked in to be looked at on NYE, any ideas what it could be? I've seen the recall info for timing chains but I think my car is too new for this.

Abit annoyed to be honest with having the car for less than a week and it being an AUC. Is there any reason BMW wouldn't cover any necessary repairs?

What's the mileage? Care to upload a YouTube vid of the rattle? The timing chain issue only really effected the early N47 engine. Your 2010 variant should be fitted with the newer parts. Although it's not impossible.

The dual mass fly wheel and clutch might also be a good shout.

Its probably best finding out when your car was built. Then you will be able to determine what version of the N47 you have and what has/hasn't been done.

Put your VIN into one of the free checkers to find out.

I had my timing chains and dmf/clutch done in the first month of ownership, was all covered by the AUC warranty. That was on a 2008, 80k miles car.

Thanks for the replies, been a little bit busy over the new year!

It turned out to be an issue with the fuel lines which the dealer have ordered parts for and are replacing under warranty. Not sure if it is a common issue but the mechanic said there is a modification available to stop it happening again.
