upgrade rear to 255/40 - for e90 sedan

Hi,

i've got factory Type 158 (17x8 ET34 225/45 R17) with rf tyres - all factory.

would like to get a wider set of rear tyres pref 255/40 spec.

is this do-able on the stock rims? has anyone done it? what are the prices if this is feasible?

ride and handling? any differences?

was also thinking of changing the springs to lower the car. any suggestions?

thanks.

The wheels are far too narrow for a tire that wide. I wouldnt do it. If you want wider tires, get wider wheels.

Exactly, if you decide on doing so and want to stay OEM, check the style 162 wheels or BMW Performance wheel. If you're feeling bold and want to go after-market, the options are endless.

8" wide rims will give your 225 a good stretch. You can do 235 and that's max. I would not go any wider than 235 on 8" rims.

You can do it. You just need to choose a stiff side walled tire. I ran the same size on my STI track set up. Stock 17X8 with 255/40/17 azenis RT-615

However, as others have said a wider wheel would be better.

Ok thanks - so either a 235 which is the recommended max or swap to wider wheel (8.5?)
