Oil change Gear, and Final drive

Experts help, when shall be the right times to change the Gear oil as well as the one for the final drive. What does BMW really mean by longlife oil?

I changed mine at 60K. Old school is 30K, but the synthetic stuff BMW uses now is better than that. I have serious problems with 100K intervals or "lifetime" intervals.

I've done my driveline fluids about every 80K to 100K miles. I've replaced them with OE juices from BMW. I'm sitting now at 293K with both trans, diff, and cooling sytem still running good.

Synthetic gear oil in a differential really can go for 100K miles. The only rear caveat to this interval is when you submerge the diff in water (like on a 4WD truck off road).

They say "lifetime". The recommendations you'll find elsewhere range from every 100k to every 30k (which on a non-tracked car seems a bit excessive tbh).

I'm going to do mine at 70k and then every 60k from then on, but again, you'll find differing recommendations elsewhere. It's not a huge expense though. I mean, even if you pay an indy mechanic, a few thundered bucks every 6 years or so isn't terrible.

its never about the money to me, but basically about what they recommend i dont want to be too soon at the same time, also can i just increase their level if its off or i shall change it

BMW calls the engine oil "Long Life" meaning it lasts longer than usual other oils, but still needs to be replaced.

BMW calls the transmission oil and similar "Life time", meaning they will last the life time of the parts they are in.

Question is, will these parts live longer if their oils were replaced?

Many think so.

For myself, why risk it? It is much less money and time to replace these fluids in say 60K or 80K miles (100K kms) vs replacing the parts at say 150K miles. Depends on how long do you want to keep the car also.

I'm sitting now at 293K with both trans, diff, and cooling sytem still running good. __________________ A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."
