skid plate options available?

for my tdi jetta, i had a steel skid plate that actually had an oem part number. there were also tons of aftermarket options.

the under belly tray gets torn up and broken apart very easily it seem... is there a skid plate option for our cars? i'm really surprised for a slightly lower car that there aren't a bunch of skid plate options

picture for reference of what i'm talking about

what are you guys doing when your belly tray falls apart? just replacing or leaving the bottom open to the elements??

My tray is 6 years and 125k miles old and looks pretty much brand new except having some oil stains on it. Did you hit something? Our oil pan doesnt hang down below the subframe or the front bumper so it doesnt really need a skid plate unless you make a habit of running over large items. Only person who has had a problem and posted about it was on bimmerfest (3ismagic) and he ran over a rock so big it caught on his rocker panel and cracked his trans pan which probably would have taken out a flimsy metal skid plate anyway.

i'm in canada.. so anywhere there is snow and ice.. something will be scraping up the bottom of the tray. just a matter of time i'd think.

the tray doesn't seem like the most durable material either...

I had to replace mine. Msport nose is low and I got too close to a parking place bumper. Nose got hooked on it and when I backed up ( not knowing I was hooked) it tore the under belly cover. I did scavenge all of the screws and oil sump door though for spares. I will eventually need to get another msport bumper too. I like its looks but it's a PITA for areas I drive.

You can get an lkq replacement for $99 on ebay. It is polyethylene rather than the fiber material. Here's a link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/191509679819...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
